Autumn Books

If you read my 2022 Autumn Bucket List, you will know that this is my favourite time of the year to get lost in a good book.

For the past couple of years with the pandemic it was a struggle to focus on books, but this year the book bug is well and truly back! I had set myself a modest reading challenge for this year on Goodreads, only 10 books, and was over that amount by June.

Now, I’m just excited to make the most of the “oh it’s miserable out, I’ll just stay in and read” excuse.

Best Autumn Books

Whenever Autumn comes around I am looking for a very specific type of book – one that has a cosy feel, goes well with a fireplace (even if one of those virtual ones on Netflix) and preferably has a hint of magic. No wonder that I always want to re-read Practical Magic! It’s one of my favourite books and it doesn’t lose its spell with each read, which is great.

Pride & Prejudice is another book that makes me think of Autumn, possibly because it was around this time many years ago that I first read it, but also because it makes me think of countryside walks in the rain.

The Rose Code is one of my favourite books of the year, and a lot of its action is set in the Autumn, so it had to be included on this list. The story, around Bletchley Park code breakers and a post-war mystery, is captivating, with beautifully developed characters and settings – and it is definitely worth a read.

Daisy Jones and The Six, while set over a long period of time, is one that goes really well with the Autumnal mood – particularly if accompanied by Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours (which I believe TJR mentioned was an inspiration while writing the book), which just adds to the Autumnal.

No Autumn book list would be complete without a mention to Harry Potter. As a teenager and young adult I loved finding myself lost in the Wizarding world – and the magic still holds!

If you’re a music fan, pick up the memoirs or biography of your favourite artists, they usually give great insights and are fun to read if you’ve followed their careers. I’ve recently finished Dave Grohl’s The Storyteller and fell absolutely in love with it!

And finally, one book that has just come out a couple of weeks ago but is very good, is TJR’s Carrie Soto is Back. You can find a longer review of this book here – but suffice to say that I finished it in a week and loved every bit.

Se tiverem lido a minha Bucket List de Outono de 2022, já sabem que esta é minha época favorita do ano para me perder num bom livro.

Nos últimos dois anos, com a pandemia, foi uma luta conseguir-me concentrar em livros, mas este ano o bichinho da leitura está de volta! Estabeleci um desafio de leitura modesto para este ano no Goodreads, de apenas 10 livros, e em Junho já tinha passado esse número.

Agora, estou entusiasmada para tirar o maior partido da desculpa “oh, o tempo está horrível, vou ficar em casa a ler”.

Melhores Livros de Outono

Sempre que chega o Outono procuro um tipo de livro muito específico – um que seja aconchegante, combine bem com uma lareira (mesmo que seja uma daquelas virtuais da Netflix) e de preferência que tenha um toque de magia. Não é à toa que eu acabo sempre por reler o Practical Magic de Alice Hoffman! É um dos meus livros favoritos e não perde o encanto a cada leitura, o que é ótimo.

Orgulho e Preconceito de Jane Austen é outro livro que me faz pensar no Outono, possivelmente porque foi por volta dessa época, há muitos anos, que o li pela primeira vez. Mas também porque me faz pensar em caminhadas no campo à chuva!

The Rose Code é um dos meus livros favoritos do ano, e grande parte da acção passa-se no Outono, então não podia faltar nesta lista. A história, em torno dos decifradores de código de Bletchley Park e um mistério do pós-guerra, é cativante, com personagens e cenários que são muito bem desenvolvidos. Vale mesmo a pena ler.

Daisy Jones and The Six, embora passado ao longo de um período de tempo maior, combina super bem com o clima outonal – principalmente se for acompanhado pelo álbum Rumors dos Fleetwood Mac (que penso que foi mencionado pela TJR como uma das fontes de inspiraçã0 enquanto escrevia o livro).

Nenhuma lista de livros de outono estaria completa sem se falar da saga Harry Potter. Como adolescente e jovem adulta, adorava perder-me no mundo mágico – e a magia ainda se mantém!

Se gostarem de música, sugiro que peguem nas memórias ou biografias dos vossos artistas favoritos, podem dar uma perspectiva mais íntima do percurso dos artistas e são divertidos de ler se tiverem acompanhado as suas carreiras. Acabei recentemente de ler o The Storyteller de Dave Grohl, e fiquei encantada! Se gostarem de música Rock dos anos 90 (e adiante), recomendo muito.

Para terminar, um livro que saiu apenas há algumas semanas, mas que é muito bom: Carrie Soto is Back de Taylor Jenkins Reid. Podem encontrar um post mais detalhado sobre este livro aqui – mas basta dizer que acabei de o ler numa semana e adorei cada bocadinho.
