One thing about me is that I will always always love a good, cheesy 80s movie. And one that is firmly in the list of my favourites is Top Gun.
It has everything: excellent soundtrack, volleyball scenes, action, volleyball scenes, drama, comedy, volleyball scenes…you get the idea, right?
So when the new film was announced I knew I had to go watch it.
I didn’t, however, expect to love it quite as much as I did. I laughed out loud, I cried (nearly sobbed!), and I cheered. Top Gun Maverick everything has everything you could want, and more. H
Here’s why you should watch it (preferably in a big screen.
The Nostalgia
This movie has so many brilliant call backs to the original! Aside from the ones that are shown in the trailer (Iceman, Miles Teller’s character being Goose’s son), there is also the music (Danger Zone anyone?), and some smaller details that are subtle but brilliant nods to that original classic. If you haven’t watched it yet, go and try to see how many you can spot. I spotted so many and enjoyed them so much!
The Action
The action sequences in this movie are insane – so thrilling to watch! Tom Cruise being Tom Cruise, he didn’t want any of the flying sequences to be green screened, and so he designed a whole set of training for the actors who would even need to learn to direct themselves inside the jets. Impressive commitment, right? It works beautifully on screen – especially on a big screen!!
The Story
As much as Top Gun Maverick is a movie about competition between aviators, it also has a bit of a redemption story for Maverick, who still carries the guilt for Goose’s death all those years back. This influences his relationship with Miles Teller’s character during the film – going from deeply emotional moments, to actually very well crafted comedy scenes. The story is well developed and works brilliantly in the wider scope of the film.
The film has twists, turns, emotional moments and so much nostalgia! And there are some scenes of impressive acting from Tom Cruise too, which I was really glad to see!
Honourable mentions to:
- The football scene (of course!)
- Miles Teller’s singing and shoulder shimmy (will live long in our memories)
- Monica Barbaro as Phoenix because it’s great to see women taking on badass roles like this!
- Glen Powell in general because he is amazing!
- Lady Gaga’s love theme for the movie which, quoting Miles Teller, slaps real hard.
I really enjoyed this movie – it is by far one of the best sequels I have seen! Totally worth watching on a big screen – my plan is to go see it in IMAX very very soon too.

Uma coisa que precisam de saber sobre mim é que amo um bom filme dos anos 80. E um que está firmemente na lista dos meus favoritos é o Top Gun.
Tem de tudo: banda sonora excelente, cenas de volley, acção, cenas de volley, drama, comédia, cenas de volley… estão a ver a ideia, certo?
Claro que, quando o novo filme foi anunciado, eu sabia que tinha de ir ver!
O que eu não estava à espera, era de gostar tanto quanto gostei! Ri às gargalhadas, chorei (quase baba e ranho!), torci e aplaudi. O Top Gun Maverick tem tudo o que se pode querer e muito mais.
Aqui ficam algumas razões porque devem ir ver este filme (de preferência no grande ecrã!).
A Nostalgia
Este filme tem tantas ligações incríveis ao original! Além dos que se vêm no trailer (Iceman, o personagem de Miles Teller que é filho do Goose), há também a música (Danger Zone!), e alguns detalhes menores que são ligações subtis, mas tão bem feitas ao filme original. Se ainda não viram, vão e tentem ver quantos conseguem identificar. Encontrei muitos e deu imenso gozo!
A Acção
As sequências de ação neste filme são inacreditáveis – tão emocionantes! O Tom Cruise sendo o Tom Cruise, não quis que nenhuma das sequências de vôo fossem filmadas num ecrã verde, e por isso criou todo um conjunto de treinos para os actores que precisavam até de aprender como se filmar dentro dos jactos. Dedicação impressionante, certo? Funciona lindamente no ecrã – especialmente num grande!!
A História
Por mais que Top Gun Maverick seja um filme sobre competição entre aviadores, ele também tem uma história de redenção para Maverick, que ainda carrega a culpa pela morte de Goose depois de tanto tempo. Isso influencia a relação com o personagem de Miles Teller ao longo do filme – passando de momentos profundamente emotivos, até cenas de comédia bem conseguidas. A história é bem desenvolvida e funciona super bem no total do filme.
O filme tem voltas, reviravoltas, momentos emocionantes e muita nostalgia! E há algumas cenas com óptima representação por parte do Tom Cruise também, que eu gostei muito de ver!

- A cena do futebol (claro!)
- O Miles Teller a cantar e a abanar os ombros (viverá por muito tempo nas nossas memórias)
- Monica Barbaro como Phoenix porque é ótimo ver mulheres em papéis como este!
- Glen Powell em geral porque ele é incrível!
- O tema de Lady Gaga para o filme que é muito forte.
Gostei mesmo muito deste filme – é de longe uma das melhores sequelas que já vi! Vale muito a pena assistir em no grande ecrã – eu já estou a planear ir ver outra vez em IMAX!
