Today is the first day of my long awaited, long overdue Summer holiday – and this year it will be spent with one glorious week in the Algarve region of Portugal.
I’ll tell you more about where we are and what we’re doing over this week in future posts, but today, I wanted to do a round up of my Beach essentials.
Raffia Bag
Raffia/Straw/Rattan bags have become a staple of Summer style and for good reason. They’re cute, they’re practical, and they’re much more summery than the average leather bag. Mine for this year is this adorable Oysho Raffia shopper – isn’t it cute?
Pouch for Essentials
When I go to the beach I always like having a pouch to keep my essentials, like my phone, purse, and keys. I like one that is made of a sturdy material that won’t overheat in the sun, and will (mostly) keep sand out.
Swimsuit
Either a bikini or a one-piece, they’re must haves for days at the beach, of course. I have loved high waisted bikinis for years, especially when the bottom has that 50s-like style. So comfortable!
Hat
When the sun is strong it’s good to have something to cover your head to keep away those heat headaches. Straw hats are my favourite for this! I have one that I got in TK Maxx years ago that is always my go to.
Flip flops
There isn’t a more practical beach shoe than the classical flip flop – and for those, the best brand has to be Havaianas. They have such a wide variety of styles, and they’re so practical! Mine are the slim model in gold and have been lasting me for years.
A light towel
Good beach towels are always important, as you want to be comfortable during the day! But you also want something that’s lightweight so it doesn’t weigh a ton when it’s wet.
Sunscreen
Lots, and lots of sunscreen! I like really light options for both body and face, as I don’t like feeling sticky or having that dreaded white layer on me. For body, I always go for spray options (with high SPF) and for face, I pick a mineral sunscreen that’s good for my sensitive skin.
I also like to have a sun protection spray for my hair, which I spray on after I go to the ocean to help keep my hair healthy (and looking nice during the day). And finally – super important – sun protection for my lips too – they’re a sensitive area and it’s important to care for them in the sun!
After Sun
Always. As much as you care for your skin in the sun, it always feels so good to apply a cooling after sun in the evening after a shower!
Flowy dresses
Whether to go to the beach during the day, or to go out for dinner/drinks in the evening, you can’t go wrong with a nice, flowy dress. This year I bought a couple of cute ones from Sezane and Whistles that I’m super excited to wear out for dinner this week!

Conto-vos mais sobre onde vamos estar e o que vamos fazer em posts futuros, mas hoje, queria fazer um resumo dos meus essenciais de praia – aquelas coisas que convém sempre ter numas férias!
Saco de ráfia
Sacos de ráfia / palha / rattan tornaram-se um clássico do estilo de verão por boas razões. Eles são giros, são práticos e têm muito mais ar de verão do que uma mala de pele normal. O meu saco deste ano é este da Oysho – não é giro?
Bolsa para essenciais
Quando vou à praia, gosto sempre de ter uma bolsa para guardar as coisas importantes, tipo o telemóvel, a carteira e as chaves de casa. Escolho sempre bolsas de um material resistente que não aqueça muito com o sol e (principalmente) que não deixe entrar areia.
Fato de Banho
Seja um biquíni ou uma peça única, são obrigatórios para dias na praia, claro. Eu adoro biquínis de cintura alta há anos, especialmente quando a parte de baixo tem aquele estilo anos 50. Tão confortável!
Chapéu
Quando o sol está forte, é bom ter algo para cobrir a cabeça para afastar as dores de cabeça do calor. Chapéus de palha são os meus favoritos para isso! Eu tenho um que comprei no TK Maxx há anos e ainda é o meu favorito.
Havaianas
Não existe sapato de praia mais prático do que o clássico chinelo – e os melhores são da Havaianas. Têm uma grande variedade de estilos e são muito práticos! Os meus são modelos slim em dourado e já duram há anos.
Uma toalha leve
É importante ter uma boa toalha de praia, para podermos estar confortáveis o dia todo! Mas também queremos uma que seja leve, para que não pese uma tonelada quando estiver molhada no regresso a casa! Eu comprei a minha no site Sunday Living no ano passado e adoro.
Protetor solar
Muito, muito protetor solar! Gosto de opções muito leves para corpo e rosto, já que não gosto de me sentir pegajosa ou de ter aquela terrível camada branca em mim. Para o corpo, sempre opto por opções de spray (com alto FPS) e para o rosto, escolho um protetor solar mineral, bom para a minha pele sensível.
Também gosto de ter um spray de proteção solar para o meu cabelo, que aplico depois de ir ao mar para ajudar a manter meu cabelo saudável (e bonito durante o dia). E finalmente – super importante – proteção solar para os lábios também – eles são uma área sensível e é importante cuidar deles ao sol!
After Sun
Sempre. Por mais que tenhamos cuidado com a pele ao sol, sempre é tão bom aplicar um creme refrescante ao fim do dia, depois do banho!
Vestidos fluidos
Seja para ir à praia durante o dia, ou para sair para jantar / tomar um copo à noite, não há como errar com um vestido bonito e fluido. Este ano eu comprei dois lindos na Sezane e na Whistles que estou super entusiasmada para usar ao jantar esta semana!
