I’ve shared before that I’m a big History buff – I loved studying History in school and I’m still interested in the subject.

One of my favourite genres of books to read is Historical Fiction – I love getting lost in books set in different times in History, especially because it entices my curiosity and always makes me go and research more about the events the books refer to.
Gosto muito de ler Romances Históricos – adoro perder-me em livros passados noutras alturas da História, especialmente porque me aguça a curiosidade e me dá vontade de ir pesquisar e aprender mais sobre os eventos a que os livros se referem.

The Nightingale
This is a fantastic novel that deals with the devastation of WWII for the women who were left behind in occupied France, while the men went to the front. Through the story of two sisters, The Nightingale gives a very interesting and moving perspective of WWII and it’s one of the best books I’ve read in recent years.
Este livro incrível trata da devastação causada pela Segunda Guerra Mundial nas mulheres que foram deixadas para trás na França ocupada, enquanto os homens foram para a frente de batalha. Através da história de duas irmãs, The Nightingale dá uma perspectiva super interessante e emotiva da Segunda Guerra e é um dos melhores livros que li nos últimos anos.
The Fountains of Silence
A beautiful piece of storytelling, set in Franco’s Spain. Through flawed and complex characters, and descriptions that have you feeling every one of the characters emotions, this book has a fantastic way of capturing life during a dictatorship, and especially the culture of fear and silence that they generate.
Uma história muitíssimo bem contada, passada na Espanha Franquista. Através de personagens complexas e imperfeitas, e de descrições que nos fazem sentir cada uma das emoções das personagens, este livro consegue mostrar lindamente a vida durante uma ditadura, e especialmente a cultura de medo e silêncio que as ditaduras geram.
What the Wind Knows
Set in Ireland in the early 20s, What the Wind Knows is an enchanting story of family and love for your Homeland. It mixes History and Fiction in an almost poetic way. I especially loved how it describes Ireland – and the passion of those who fought for her freedom – it’s breathtaking!
Passado na Irlanda do início dos anos de 1920, What the Wind Knows é uma história encantadora de família e amor pela Pátria. Mistura História e Ficção de forma quase poética. Eu adorei especialmente a forma como descreve a Irlanda – e a paixão daqueles que lutaram pela sua independência – é de cortar a respiração!
