A couple of weeks ago, I shared my favourite Summer reads. Putting that together, it occurred to me that there are also a few movies that always make me think of Summer.
Há umas semanas, partilhei aqui os meus livros preferidos para o Verão. Ao escrever esse post, lembrei-me que há alguns filmes que sempre me lembram do Verão.
That’s when I thought it’d be fun to share my top films for the season we’re now beginning. Here we go!
Por isso pensei que podia ser giro partilhar os meus filmes preferidos para a estação que estamos a começar. Aqui vai!
Now & Then
In a Summer during the 1960s, four friends set off to uncover a mystery that happened in their town years before. While doing so, they go through their own adventures: swimming in creeks, playing pranks on boys, sharing their deepest fears and secrets…all those things that are part of growing up. I love watching this film now, as much as I did when I first saw it back in the 90s. It’s the perfect friendship movie that happens to be set in Summer.
Num Verão durante os anos 60, quatro amigas decidem investigar um mistério que se passou na vila onde moram anos antes. Enquanto o fazem, passam pelas suas próprias aventuras: a nadar em riachos, a pregar partidas a rapazes, a partilhar os seus segredos e medos mais íntimos…todas as coisas que fazem parte de crescer. Adoro ver este filme agora, tanto quanto como na primeira vez que o vi nos anos 90. É o filme de amizade perfeito, que por acaso se passa no Verão.
10 Things I Hate About You
The end of school vibes, the idea of sunny Seattle, prom…it is all reminiscent of that excitement for the beginning of warm days spent in the sun. It’s always a favourite, but especially for this season! I first saw 10 Things at the beginning of my Summer Holidays in 1999, proceeding to spend the entire break thinking about how I could be more like Kat Stratford. Still love her, and the film.
O ambiente de final de ano escolar, a ideia de Seattle com sol, o baile de finalistas…tudo lembra aquela excitação pela chegada dos dias quentes passados ao sol. É um daqueles favoritos de sempre, mas especialmente nesta estação! Vi o 10 Things pela primeira vez no início das minhas férias de Verão de 1999, e passei o resto das férias a pensar como podia ser mais como a alta Stratford. Ainda a adoro a ela, e ao filme também.
Little White Lies
Guillaume Canet’s directorial debut, set in Cap Ferret on the southern Atlantic coast of France, is one of my all time favourite films. Alongside the main story, which is really moving, the sequences of all the friends having a great time at the beach always make me dream.
O primeiro filme realizado por Guillaume Canet, passado no Cap Ferret na Costa Atlântica no sul de França, é dos meus filmes preferidos de sempre. Para além da história principal que é muito comovente, as sequências com os amigos todos a divertir-se na praia fazem-me sempre sonhar.
Dirty Dancing
What a classic, right? I love Dirty Dancing – from the soundtrack, to the sweet love story, to the inimitable quotes. There’s something so old school family holidays about Kellerman’s that makes me feel very nostalgic.
Que clássico, não é? Adoro Dirty Dancing – desde a banda sonora, à história de amor adorável, às frases inimitáveis. Há algo de tão familiar nas férias no Kellerman’s que me deixa muito nostálgica.
Because I said so
Gabriel Macht pre-Suits. Mandy Moore pre-This is Us (but post-Candy). Diane Keaton. This film is romantic comedy gold. Years ago over summer I watched it countless times, introducing it to different people, all of whom fell in love with it too. It’s quirky and charming and so sweet. I love it!
