Is there anything better than chilling out with a good book on your summer break, be it at the beach, by the pool, or just late at night while it’s still warm out? My family always encouraged us to pick a book to take on holiday, and I remember being so excited choosing it – and inevitably going to the nearest town to pick a second one because the first finished quickly. It was one of my favourite Summer Holiday traditions – and still is to this day!

Lá em casa sempre nos encorajaram a escolher um livro para levar nas férias e eu lembro-me de estar sempre super entusiasmada a escolher – e inevitavelmente de ir à cidade mais próxima comprar um novo porque tinha o primeiro tinha acabado muito depressa. Era uma das minhas tradições preferidas do Verão – e ainda é até hoje!

Lembrei-me de sugerir alguns livros que adorei nos últimos tempos e que são perfeitos para ler quando o tempo está quente e nos estamos a sentir maravilhosamente preguiçosos.
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
When I read this book I had been in one of those phases when you pick up countless books but don’t really get into any of them. It was ‘Guernsey’ that pulled me out of my funk – that says a lot about how much I loved it! A very charming story about a writer who begins corresponding with several residents of Guernsey and in doing so understands the difficulties they went through when occupied by the Germans during WWII. It’s full of quirky characters and it’s really charming from start to finish. A real treat!
Quando li este livro estava numa daquelas fases em que tentamos ler uma série de livros sem conseguir pegar a sério em nenhum. Foi o ‘Guernsey’ que me tirou dessa fase – o que diz muito sobre o quanto gostei do livro! Uma história deliciosa sobre uma escritora que começa a trocar correspondência com vários residentes da ilha de Guernsey. Ao fazê-lo, compreende as dificuldades que passaram durante a ocupação alemã na Segunda Guerra Mundial. O livro está cheio de personagens engraçados e é um encanto do princípio ao fim. Uma maravilha!
The Lido
I absolutely fell in love with this story about an elderly lady who starts a campaign to save her local lido in Brixton, and the awkward journalist who helps her. The story goes back through the lady’s memories, which lead us over the many things the Lido has lived through. It also introduces us to a vast array of interesting characters – all those people that make London the great city it is. It’s a wonderful, inspiring and heart-warming story.
Apaixonei-me completamente por esta história sobre uma senhora de idade que começa uma campanha para salvar a piscina pública local em Brixton, e da jornalista tímida e desajeitada que a ajuda. A história passa pelas memórias da senhora que nos levam através dos vários momentos pelos quais passou a piscina. Também nos apresenta a toda uma coleção de personagens interessantes – aquelas pessoas que tornam Londres a cidade incrível que é. Uma história maravilhosa, inspiradora e comovente.
The Proposal
A super enjoyable romance novel that starts with a very public proposal and a very timely rescue. It’s set in LA so there’s always that element of fun in the sun. Plus, the characters are charming, flawed, and above all diverse in all kinds of ways, which is super refreshing! Such a fun read.
Um romance super agradável de ler que começa uma proposta de casamento muito pública e um resgate no momento certo. Passa-se em LA por isso há sempre aquele toque de Verão e calor. Para além disso, os personagens são captivantes, têm defeitos e acima de tudo mostram a diversidade daquela cidade de várias formas, o que é óptimo de ler! Uma óptima história, super fácil de ler em pouco tempo.
