Edinburgh City Guide

Easter weekend in the UK is one of my favourites – as Good Friday and Easter Monday are both bank holidays, we get four whole days off, making it a great time to head out for a city break.

I’d been wanting to go to Scotland ever since I moved to the UK way back in 2008, but never really got to it. So this year for Easter, I decided to finally head up and explore Edinburgh. It’s such a great city, full of History, charm and incredible views!

Já andava a querer ir à Escócia desde que me mudei para o Reino Unido em 2008, mas nunca cheguei a ir. Então este ano pela Páscoa decidi finalmente ir lá acima e explorar Edimburgo. É uma cidade incrível, cheia de História, charme e vistas lindas!

I wanted to round up the best bits from my trip and turn them into a little guide – hope you like it!

Quis resumir os melhores momentos da minha viagem e com eles criar um pequeno guia – espero que gostem!

Where to stay

If you’re looking for something not too expensive but central and comfortable, Motel One has a few locations in Edinburgh and it’s a great option. I stayed at their Princes hotel, just across the road from the Station – a great starting point for all the exploring, as it is super central.

Se estiverem à procura de um sítio central, confortável, mas não muito caro, para ficar, o Motel One tem alguns hotéis em Edimburgo e é óptima opção. Fiquei no Motel One Princes, mesmo ao lado da estação de comboios – um óptimo ponto de partida para começar a explorar, já que é super central.

What to see

National Museum of Scotland

Not only does the museum have really interesting displays, but it also has one of the most beautiful main halls I’ve seen in a museum, ever!

Não só é um museu com uma colecção bem interessante, mas também têm um dos halls principais mais bonitos que já vi num museu!

Edinburgh Castle

A medieval castle set atop a volcanic rock from millions of years ago that has beautiful views. Visit to see the Scottish Crown Jewels, used for the Coronation of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Um castelo medieval construído em cima de pedra vulcânica com milhões de anos que tem vistas lindas. Visitem para ver as Jóias da Coroa Escocesa, usadas na Coroação de Mary, Queen of Scots.

Palace of Holyroodhouse

At the other end of the Royal Mile is the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s residence when she visits Edinburgh. Less busy than other royal houses, Holyroodhouse is just beautiful – and it has such a unique History!

Na outra ponta da Royal Mile, fica o Palácio de Holyroodhouse, a residência da Rainha quando visita Edimburgo. Não sendo tão concorrido como outras residências reais, o Palácio de Holyroodhouse é lindíssimo e tem uma História única!

The Shore

To make the most of the good weather, I headed to The Shore, in Leith, taking my friend’s advice to explore this area. I loved it!

Para aproveitar o bom tempo, dirigi-me à zona conhecida como The Shore, em Leith, seguindo os conselhos da minha amiga para explorar esta zona. Adorei!

Royal Yacht Britannia

If you’ve seen The Crown on Netflix, you will be familiar with Britannia and its role in the travels of the Royal family. Now it’s docked near Edinburgh and if you like History and visiting Palaces like I do, this is a really good one!

Se já tiverem visto a série The Crown no Netflix, terão ouvido falar no Britannia e no seu papel nas viagens da família Real. Agora está ancorado perto de Edimburgo e se gostarem de História e de visitar Palácios como eu, este vale bem a pena!

Dean Village & Circus Lane

Two super picturesque areas of Edinburgh, both so peaceful they make you forget you’re in a busy city!

Duas zonas super pitorescas de Edimburgo, tão calmas que quase fazem esquecer que se está no meio de uma cidade agitada!

Calton Hill

I’m so glad I took my friend’s advice and went to Calton Hill to admire the view! No doubt the prettiest view of the city centre, a must have on any list.

Ainda bem que segui o conselho da minha amiga e subi a Calton Hill para ver a vista lá de cima! Sem exagero a vista mais bonita do centro da cidade, um ponto indispensável em qualquer guia desta cidade.

Where to Eat & Drink

Coffee spots

I love a good coffee shop and when I headed to Edinburgh I had a few to try on my list. They did not disappoint!

Adoro descobrir cafés bons e quando me dirigi a Edimburgo já tinha uns quantos na lista para experimentar. E não desiludiram!

Wellington Coffee is great for that morning coffee – I had a cappuccino and scone for breakfast, and both were delicious.

Wellington Coffee é óptimo para aquele café da manhã – tomei lá um pequeno-almoço de cappuccino com scone, ambos deliciosos.

The Milkman is no doubt the cosiest coffee spot, the little corner by the window is so comfortable and amazing to sit reading a book and watching people go by! And the salted caramel brownie is out of this world.

The Milkman é sem dúvida o café mais aconchegante, o cantinho ao pé da janela é super confortável e óptimo para ficar a ler um livro e a ver pessoas passar! E o brownie de caramelo salgado é do outro mundo.

Burr & Co was another great find – the coffee was great and I really enjoyed the vanilla & blueberry croissant, such a yummy combination!

Burr & Co foi outra descoberta óptima – o café estava óptimo e adorei o croissant com creme de baunilha e mirtilos, que combinação saborosa!

Food

Timberyard

For a special lunch, Timberyard is great. Focusing on locally produced food, the dishes are unusual and so tasty! Keep an eye out for a dedicated post soon.

Timberyard é óptimo para uma refeição especial. Pratos originais, cozinhados com ingredientes produzidos nas redondezas e tão saborosos! Fiquem atentos ao blog – em breve surgirá um post dedicado só a este restaurante.

Spatch

My friend mentioned this place, so I decided to check it out. It was so good! Super tasty chicken and some delicious sweet potato fries.

A minha amiga falou-me neste sítio e eu lá fui experimentar. Tão bom! O frango era super saboroso e as batatas fritas de batata doce também.

Toast

Making the most of a very sunny weather, I had lunch by the water in Leith, at Toast. The Toast Benedict with Salmon was the perfect lunch for a warm day – and the mini banofee pie to go with my coffee was the ideal dessert. Yum!

Para aproveitar o dia de sol, almocei perto da água em Leith, no Toast. A Toast Benedict com Salmão foi perfeita para um dia de calor – e a tarte de banana e caramelo que comi com o café foi a sobremesa ideal. Delicioso!

Afternoon Tea at The Signet Library

As an Easter Sunday treat, I booked myself for an Afternoon Tea at The Signet Library. It was wonderful – look out for it’s own post soon too!

Como refeição especial de Domingo de Páscoa, decidi fazer uma reserva e ir tomar um Afternoon Tea na Signet Library. Foi uma maravilha – fiquem atentos porque vou escrever um post só sobre esta experiência em breve!
