My pixie cut story

I realised a while ago that I shared my pixie (and its updates) here a few times, but I never talked about the experience of getting it, and how I chose the cut. But now is as good a time as any!

Há tempos apercebi-me que partilhei o meu pixie (e as actualizações do corte) aqui algumas vezes, mas nunca falei da experiência de cortar e como escolhi o corte. Mas mais vale tarde que nunca!

I have quite thick hair which just goes very heavy and frizzy when it’s long. I’m also not very good at styling it every day – especially because most days I’m running to get out of the house!

O meu cabelo é bastante grosso e fica com um ar pesado e despenteado quando está comprido. Para além disso eu não tenho muito jeito para fazer penteados todos os dias – especialmente porque na maioria deles estou a correr para sair de casa a horas!

In May of 2017 I went to see Grace at Hershesons to get a refresh of my bob haircut – and we started talking about her short hair at the time. I can safely say that I got the pixie bug that day.

Em Maio de 2017 fui ver a Grace no Hershesons para refrescar o meu corte tipo bob – e começámos a falar sobre o corte curto que ela tinha na altura. Posso dizer que foi nesse dia que fiquei a pensar que queria um pixie.

I spent the next month fussing with my hair and the hot weather, and come June I had booked to go see Sam (who Grace recommended as she was going on maternity) and off went the hair!

Passei o mês seguinte a irritar-me com o cabelo comprido e o calor e, chegado Junho, já tinha marcado com o Sam (que a Grace recomendou antes de ir de licença de parto) e adeus cabelo!

Before the big day I looked everywhere for inspiration: magazines, Instagram, Pinterest…finally I decided my favourite was Juliane Hough’s pixie from a couple of years ago.

Antes do grande DJs procurei inspiração por todo o lado: revistas, Instagram, Pinterest…finalmente decidi que o meu preferido era o pixie da Juliane Hough de há uns anos atrás.

In the end, the original cut turned out much shorter, but it was perfect! Such a radical change – but one I was really happy about!

O corte original acabou por ficar bem mais curto, mas ficou perfeito! Uma mudança super radical – mas que me deixou super feliz!

Because it was so short it was super easy to style! Just a shake of the head after towel drying, a spritz of sea salt spray and it was done.

Porque ficou tão curto era super fácil de pentear! Só abanar a cabeça depois de secar com uma toalha, um spray para dar textura e estava feito.

As it started growing, I went back to see Grace to refresh the haircut and grow it more into a long pixie.

À medida que o cabelo começou a crescer, voltei a ir cortar com a Grace para refrescar o corte e torná-lo mais num pixie comprido.

It then started requiring a bit more effort to style. In winter it meant blow drying and applying the Kiehl’s Smooth Styling Cream to reduce frizzing and increase shine – it works wonders!

Depois começou a dar mais trabalho a pentear. No Inverno comecei a precisar de secador e comecei a aplicar o Smooth Styling Cream da Kiehl’s para ficar menos frisado e mais brilhante – funciona lindamente!

In summer, I discovered the IGK hair Coconut Gel which is specifically made for air drying – it gives hair that extra shine and texture while also making it look smooth and non-frizzy.

No Verão descobri o Coconut Gel da IGK Hair que é feito especialmente para deixar o cabelo secar ao ar – dá aquele ar brilhante e com mais textura ao cabelo, enquanto ao mesmo tempo o torna mais brilhante e menos frisado.

A couple of months ago I decided to try yet another new thing with my hair: colour.

Há cerca de dois meses decidi experimentar mais uma coisa nova com o meu cabelo: cor.

Maxine applied very thin highlights around my head in various layers, and then a chestnut colour toner that made my hair look super shiny and healthy.

A Maxine fez madeixas muito finas à volta da minha cabeça em várias camadas e depois aplicou um tónico de cor que fez o cabelo ficar com um ar super brilhante e saudável.

Recently I went back to a short pixie, thanks to Grace’s suggestion (based on this photo) – and I love it! I think this kind of short hair is my favourite – it’s easy to style, it’s elegant and cute and I think it really suits me (friends have said the same, so that helps). Plus the highlights make it all the prettier!

Na mudança mais recente, voltei a um pixie curto, graças à sugestão da Grace (baseada nesta foto) – e estou a adorar! Acho que este tipo de cabelo curto é o meu preferido – é fácil de pentear, é elegante e bonito e acho que me fica bem (alguns amigos já me disseram o mesmo, o que é bom). Para além disso as madeixas tornam o corte ainda mais bonito!

I’m really happy with my pixie, and I don’t think I’d want to go back to long hair anytime soon. It makes me feel lighter and somehow more confident, like I have something to make me stand out from the crowd, I guess – and that’s huge in my book!

Estou muito feliz com o meu pixie e acho que não quero voltar ao cabelo comprido tão cedo. Faz-me sentir mais leve e de alguma forma também mais confiante, como se tivesse alguma coisa que me fizesse destacar – e isso, penso eu, é enorme!
