Today’s post goes back to one of my original passions: reading! This Summer I finally got a Kindle and since I did I have been getting through so many lovely books, that I wanted to share them with you guys.
O post de hoje volta a uma das minhas primeiras paixões: ler! Este Verão arranjei finalmente um Kindle e desde então tenho lido imensos livros tão bons que queria partilhar convosco.
My Kindle
Just to tell you a bit about the device itself: I have the Kindle Paperwhite in Black.
Só para falar um bocadinho sobre o aparelho em si: tenho o Kindle Paperwhite em Preto.
It is small enough to fit into my smallest bags (while still carrying everything else I want to take).
É pequeno o suficiente para caber nas minhas malas mais pequenas (e ainda lá cabe o resto dos essenciais que quero levar).
It’s super comfortable to hold while reading (even if you’re standing in the tube).
É super confortável de pegar nele e ler (mesmo enquanto estamos de pé no metro).
It genuinely is as easy to read as an actual book, as it does not have the glare of a phone or tablet. And the battery lasts forever!!
Lê-se mesmo tão facilmente como um livro em papel, já que não tem o brilho de um telemóvel ou tablet. E a bateria dura imenso!!

Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
I had been curious about this book since I saw the trailer for the movie, so it was my first pick for Summer break reading. I loved it! The story is told through letters, and I worried I wouldn’t get used to it but I actually got to love that style of writing pretty quickly.
Já andava curiosa sobre este livro desde que vi o trailer do filme, por isso foi a primeira escolha para leitura de férias. Adorei! A história é contada através de cartas e por isso tive receio de não me habituar mas acabei por adorar o estilo de escrita muito rápido.
The main character is a lovely, determined, strong woman and the people she meets in Guernsey are the absolute best – so sweet, funny, and lovable!
A personagem principal é uma mulher forte, determinada e querida e as pessoas que conhece em Guernsey são do melhor – gentis, engraçadas e adoráveis!
The book talks about the occupation of the British Channel Islands during WWII and how it impacted people who lived there – but it also gives a glimpse of what life must have been like in London after the War finished.
O livro fala da ocupação das Channel Islands Britânicas durante a Segunda Guerra Mundial e como isso afectou quem lá vivia – mas também dá uma imagem do que era a vida em Londres depois do fim da Guerra.
It really is an incredibly moving story, and a lovely read!
É uma história emocionante e um livro delicioso!
Dear Mrs Bird
This one came up as a recommendation after I finished Guernsey, and it caught my eye.
Este surgiu como recomendação depois de acabar o Guernsey e chamou-me a atenção.
It is set in London during the Blitz and tells the story of a young woman whose dream is to become a War Correspondent – but ends up working for a magazine’s Agony Aunt instead.
Passa-se em Londres durante o Blitz e conta a história de uma mulher cujo sonho é ser Correspondente de Guerra – mas que acaba a trabalhar para a coluna de conselhos de uma revista.
It doesn’t stop there, of course, as the main character gets herself invested in the letters the magazines receive.
Não acaba aqui, claro, já que a personagem principal acaba por se deixar levar pelas cartas que a revista recebe.
Around the story of the job at the magazine, the book also describes life in London during the Blitz: the weather conditions that meant the night would be busy, the social life around the raids, worrying about people you love…it’s a really well researched and well written story!
Em redor da história do trabalho na revista, o livro também descreve a vida em Londres durante o Blitz: as condições meteorológicas que significavam que a noite ia ser agitada, a vida social para além dos raids, a preocupação com as pessoas queridas…é uma história muito bem pesquisada e bem escrita!
Crazy Rich Asians
This one is completely different from the two above – but it’s a guilty pleasure read that’s actually quite enjoyable!
Este livro é completamente diferente dos dois anteriores – mas é um guilty pleasure que se lê bem!
I can only describe it as Twilight but with insanely rich people instead of vampires – it is just as addictive, and at times just as ridiculous.
Só me ocorre descrever isto como o Twilight mas com pessoas absurdamente ricas em vez de vampiros – é igualmente viciante e às vezes igualmente ridículo.
It follows a young couple, Rachel and Nick, as they head to Singapore for a wedding and a holiday – except what Rachel doesn’t know is that Nick’s family is absurdly rich. And they won’t have just anyone dating Nick.
Segue um casal, Rachel e Nick, na viagem a Singapura para um casamento e umas férias – só que a Rachel não sabe que a família do Nick é absurdamente rica. E que não aceita qualquer pessoa a sair com ele.
The opulence and the poisonous characters drove me mad sometimes but I had to keep reading – and have already finished the second book in the trilogy…!
A opulência e os personagens venenosos deram comigo em doida muitas vezes, mas não consegui parar de ler – até já acabei o segundo livro da trilogia…!
To All The Boys I Loved Before
I saw the movie on Netflix and before I had even finished I had already bought the book.
Vi o filme no Netflix e mesmo antes de acabar já tinha comprado o livro.
It’s YA fiction but it’s so fun and easy to read. Plus the main character, Lara Jean, is so relatable for those of us who had big, unrequited, awkward crushes growing up.
É um livro de ficção para jovens adultos mas é tão divertido e fácil de ler. Para além disso, para quem viveu uma panca grande, desconfortável, não correspondida enquanto adolescente, é tão fácil de se identificar com a personagem principal, Lara Jean!
The characters are funny, sweet, relatable – and some are a bit annoying.
Os personagens são divertidos, doces – alguns um bocadinho irritantes – e é fácil identificarmo-nos com eles.
The story is funny and awkward and cute and it just warms your heart!
A história é divertida e desconfortável e fofa e até aquece o coração!
