Olá a todos! Espero que estejam bem 🙂 No post de hoje quis partilhar as séries de TV que tenho adorado nos últimos tempos.
For years I’ve loved following TV shows, since the good old days of The O.C. (Seth Cohen will forever be my one true TV love), to Grey’s Anatomy, and more recently Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, and 13 Reasons Why. I love discovering new series and following the complex stories of well developed characters, especially if they come with brilliant cultural references and one liners on point! Here are my most recent favourites…
Há anos que adoro seguir séries de TV, desde os bons velhos tempos do O.C. (o Seth Cohen vai sempre ser o verdadeiro amor da minha vida televisiva), à Anatomia de Grey e recentemente a Stranger Things, Game of Thrones e 13 Reasons Why. Adoro descobrir novas séries e seguir as histórias complicadas de personagens bem desenvolvidas, especialmente se tiverem referências culturais óptimas e one liners excelentes! Aqui ficam as que tenho adorado nos últimos tempos…
Dear White People
I sped through the first season really quickly and was impressed at how poignant it was, and how cleverly written! The characters are inspiring and human, but also have flaws and make bad choices. The second season (Volume 2) is even better. We get to know the characters in more detail, we follow how the events of Volume 1 impacted them, we see the friendships, the budding relationships, the sadness and the disappointment. It’s still poignant (maybe more?), it’s still human, it’s still an important watch. But it’s also hilarious!
Vi a primeira temporada num abrir e fechar de olhos e fiquei super impressionada por ser tão relevante e estar tão bem escrita! Os personagens são realistas e inspiradoras, mas também têm falhas e fazem más escolhas. A segunda temporada (Volume 2) é ainda melhor. Ficamos a conhecer melhor os personagens, seguimos a forma como foram afectados pelos acontecimentos da 1a temporada, vemos as amizades, o começo de relações, a tristeza e a desilusão. Ainda é relevante (talvez mais?), ainda é realista e ainda é importante ver. Mas ao mesmo tempo também é hilariante!
The Handmaid’s Tale
Last year I watched this series up to episode 3, when I stopped to go read the book first, and ended up not picking it back up. I started again this weekend and I am loving it! So powerful, so beautifully directed (every frame is pure art!), with incredible performances. It often feels like a punch in the stomach for how intense it is, and how relevant for society right now. But it’s worth it – because it’s a masterpiece, and because it’s important to talk about these issues!
No ano passado vi esta série até ao episódio 3, quando parei para ler o livro primeiro e acabei por não continuar. Voltei a pegar nela este fim-de-semana e estou a adorar! Tão poderosa, tão bem realizada (cada imagem é arte pura!), com actuações incrÃveis. Muitas vezes parece um murro no estômago por ser tão intensa e tão relevante para a sociedade actual. Mas vale a pena – porque é uma obra de arte e porque é importante falar destas questões!
The Bold Type
I’ve been slowly rewatching the first season of The Bold Type in anticipation of the second one, which will be coming out in a couple of weeks. This show always makes me feel motivated and positive. The characters are ambitious, intelligent, strong but also human, and therefore flawed. It’s a good change to see a show about a women’s magazine where the boss is actually supportive and nice, and where the main characters are friends and support each other.
Tenho estado a rever a primeira temporada do Bold Type em antecipação da segunda, que sai daqui a umas semanas. Esta série faz-me sempre sentir motivada e positiva. As personagens são ambiciosas, inteligentes, fortes mas também humanas, e por isso têm defeitos. É uma boa mudança ver uma série sobre uma revista para mulheres onde a chefe é simpática e um bom apoio e onde as personagens principais são amigas e se apoiam umas às outras.
The odd one out: 13 Reasons Why
The second season of the hit Netflix show came out last week and I’ve already gone through more than half. However, despite having been beyond excited for the new season, I’m disappointed. The episodes are rushed, and yet nothing really happens…the character interaction is not quite there…basically the show seems to have lost what made it special in the first season, which is such a shame!
A segunda temporada da série sensação da Netflix saiu na semana passada e já vi mais de metade. No entanto, apesar de ter estado super entusiasmada por ver a nova temporada, estou desiludida. Os episódios são todos a correr mas não acontece propriamente nada…a interacção entre as personagens não está a 100%…basicamente a série parece ter perdido o que a tornou especial na primeira temporada, o que é uma pena!
