If there is one thing I love this time of year is to curl up on the sofa with a cosy blanket and a nice cup of tea, watching a good Christmas film.

I quite enjoy the ones that come on TV and tend to be a bit cheesy, but if I’m doing it properly, I have to go to my staples, the ones I return to every year without getting tired. These are my favourites.
Até gosto daqueles pirosos que dão na TV, mas se estiver a fazer isto a sério, tenho de regressar aos essenciais, aqueles que revejo todos os anos sem me fartar. Aqui ficam os meus preferidos.
The Classic – White Christmas
White Christmas is a completely idyllic film about two WWII veterans who, having created a career in the entertainment business, find themselves helping their old General. Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney’s are out of this world in charm, style and sass. The Vermont inspired scenery is perfect. And with wonderful songs like the chill-inducing ‘White Christmas’, the fun ‘Snow’ or the dreamy ‘Count your blessings instead of sheep’, this is a Christmas film for the ages.
White Christmas é um filme perfeitamente idílico sobre dois veteranos da Segunda Guerra Mundial que, depois de criarem uma carreira no mundo do espectáculo, se veem a tentar ajudar o seu antigo General. Bing Crosby e Rosemary Clooney são de outro mundo tanto no que toca a charme, estilo como a pinta. Os cenários inspirados no estado de Vermont são perfeitos. E, com canções maravilhosas como ‘White Christmas’, ‘Snow’ e ‘Count your blessings instead of sheep’, este filme é daqueles que será sempre um clássico.
The Childhood favourite – Home Alone 2: Lost in New York
As a kid, being left home alone was one of my biggest fears. So although I enjoyed the first Home Alone, the second, seeming much more unlikely to happen, was always my favourite. I love following Kevin’s adventures in New York City, the stay in the Plaza, the toy store, Central Park…it’s just so good! I often find myself quoting this film, and even made sure I stopped by several of the locations of the movie when I went, alone but not lost, to New York.
Quando era miúda, tinha imenso medo de ser deixada sozinha em casa. Então, apesar de gostar do primeiro Sozinho em Casa, o segundo, que tinha muito menos probabilidades de acontecer, sempre foi o meu preferido. Adoro seguir as aventuras do Kevin em Nova Iorque, a estadia no Plaza, a loja de brinquedos, o Central Park…é tão bom! Farto-me de citar o filme e até fiz questão de passar por vários dos locais do filme quando fui, sozinha mas não perdida, a Nova Iorque.
The Romantic one – The Holiday
This is a really heartwarming film. About two women who are unhappy with their lives and swap with each other for two weeks during the Holidays for a change of scenery. They end up finding themselves, and happiness, in the process. One of my favourite quotes still comes from Kate Winslet’s character in this film: “You’re supposed to be the leading lady of your own life for God’s sake!”. It’s peak Jude Law and Kate Winslet (both incredible and gorgeous), Cameron Diaz is brilliant and adorable, and Jack Black is cute and hilarious. A true joy to watch!
Este filme é enternecedor. Sobre duas mulheres que estão infelizes com as suas vidas e trocam uma com a outra por duas semanas na altura do Natal para mudarem de ares. Nesse tempo acabam por se encontrar a si mesmas, e à felicidade. Uma das minhas citações preferidas é da personagem de Kate Winslet neste filme: “É suposto sermos a actriz principal na nossa vida!”. O filme é o auge de Jude Law e de Kate Winslet (ambos incríveis e lindos), Cameron Diaz está genial e adorável e Jack Black é fofo e de morrer a rir. Uma alegria ver este filme!
