Here we are. The last few days of a year that genuinely has flown by. It has been full of ups and downs. But looking back, it’s safe to say I’ve been lucky to have had some incredible experiences this year. Here are my highlights.
E cá estamos. Nos últimos dias de um ano que passou mesmo a correr. Foi um ano de altos e baixos. Mas revendo o ano, é seguro dizer que tive a sorte de viver coisas incríveis este ano. Aqui ficam os destaques.
Paris in the Spring
I hadn’t returned to Paris since my brief attempt at living there back in 2015. That was not a happy time for me or my anxiety, and so it was important to go back and make my peace with a city I love so much. And was it worth it! Paris delivered on the weather front: sunny with mild temperatures, perfect for wandering beautiful streets and taking striking photos!
Não voltava a Paris desde a minha tentativa de lá viver em 2015. Não foi uma altura feliz nem para mim, nem para a minha ansiedade, e por isso foi importante voltar e fazer as pazes com uma cidade da qual gosto tanto. E valeu a pena! Paris deu-me um tempo fantástico: dias de sol com temperaturas amenas, perfeitas para passear pelas ruas maravilhosas e tirar fotografias lindas!
Ciao Roma
In April, my parents and I met in the Eternal City for 4 days of exploring. It was the perfect trip. Not only did I have the perfect company, but our itinerary allowed us to see all the essentials as well as wandering the smaller, charming streets. I absolutely fell in love with Rome and cannot wait to go back.
Em Abril, os meus pais e eu encontrámo-nos na Cidade Eterna para passar 4 dias a explorar. Foi a viagem perfeita. Não só tive a companhia perfeita, mas o nosso itinerário deu para ver o essencial mas também para passear pelas ruas mais pequenas, que são maravilhosas. Apaixonei-me por Roma e mal posso esperar por voltar.
Budapest
In May I went to visit my friend B in Budapest – the weather was glorious and we did a lot of exploring. One of my favourite weekends ever! Budapest is a brilliant city, full of History, but also of great bars and restaurants, not to mention the great Baths that are super relaxing! I really want to go back!
Em Maio, fui visitar a minha amiga B a Budapeste – o tempo estava maravilhoso e fartámo-nos de passear. Um dos meus fins-de-semana preferidos! Budapeste é uma cidade fantástica, cheia de História, mas também com óptimos bares e restaurantes, já para não falar das Termas que são super relaxantes! Quero imenso voltar!
Ygritte – my tattoo
I had been debating getting an arrow tattoo for a good few years and the end of last summer, after a lot of unnecessary drama that made me feel crappy, seemed like the perfect time. I cannot express how happy I am with the design – or how much stronger it makes me feel every time I look at it. As a joke, I started referring to my tattoo by name, inspired by characters that shoot arrows: first she was Pocahontas, then Katniss, and finally Ygritte – because she’s a badass and I know nothing! 😉
Já andava a querer fazer uma tatuagem de uma seta há uns bons anos e o final do Verão passado, depois de muito drama que me fez sentir péssima, pareceu a altura ideal. Não consigo explicar adequadamente como adoro o desenho – ou quão mais forte me sinto de cada vez que olho para ela. Por piada comecei a referir-me à minha tatuagem por nome, inspirada por personagens que lançam setas: começou por ser Pocahontas, depois Katniss e finalmente ficou Ygritte – porque é uma badass e eu não sei nada! 😉
The haircut
In early Summer I decided I wanted a change. My long hair was bugging me to no end, and I’d finally built up the courage to try a pixie cut. I did feel the fear when I went for it, but it’s been a great decision! The change affected not just my head – that was much cooler in the warm temperatures – but also my mood, my confidence. It’s been fun to experiment with shorter hair!
No início do Verão, decidi que queria uma mudança. O meu cabelo comprido estava-me a fazer imensa confusão e tinha finalmente ganho coragem para experimentar ter cabelo curto. Tive um bocado de medo quando fui cortar, mas tem sido uma óptima decisão! A mudança não afectou só a minha cabeça – que ficou bastante mais fresca nas temperaturas quentes – mas também a minha disposição, a minha confiança. Tem sido divertido adaptar-me ao cabelo curto!
The Festival
In July it was time for NOS Alive, the coolest festival in Portugal. I realised a life long dream: to see Foo Fighters live. The three evenings/nights at that festival were by far the most fun of my year – to be there with my two besties and to know some of their friends, while spotting old acquaintances and even seeing one of my cousins play one of the smaller stages, was absolutely incredible!
Julho foi altura de NOS Alive, o melhor festival de Portugal. Concretizei um sonho de uma vida: ver Foo Fighters ao vivo. Os três dias/noites do festival foram de longe as mais divertidas do meu ano – estar lá com as minhas duas melhores amigas e conhecer alguns amigos delas, enquanto via antigos conhecidos e até uma prima minha a tocar num dos palcos pequenos, foi incrível!
The Summer Holiday
As is tradition, the two first weeks of August were spent in my adopted hometown of Figueira da Foz. But this year, my Summer Break had a little bonus: my best friends came to visit and M stayed over for the second week. Beach trips, walks, catch ups, cocktails at sunset by the beach, and bloody brilliant food by my Mum – it was such a fun week!
Como é tradição, as duas primeiras semanas de Agosto foram passadas na minha terra adoptiva, a Figueira da Foz. Mas este ano, as minhas férias de Verão tiveram bónus: as minhas melhores amigas foram visitar e a M ficou lá para a segunda semana. Foi uma semana tão divertida com idas à praia, passeios, conversas, cocktails ao pôr-do-sol junto à praia e comida óptima da minha mãe!
The sleep over
In October, a changed flight brought me back to Lisbon. My besties and I decided to have a dinner/movie/sleepover night and it was so much fun! There are no better times than those I spend with these girls!
Em Outubro, uma mudança de voo trouxe-me a Lisboa. As minhas melhores amigas e eu decidimos ter uma noite de jantar/filme/sleepover e foi tão divertido! Não há melhores momentos dos que o que passo com estas duas miúdas.

I definitely had a wonderful, eventful year. The good moments definitely outweighed the crappy – and I feel lucky for what I’ve experienced, what I’ve learned, and especially for having people in my life who appreciate me, flaws and all.
Tive decididamente um ano maravilhoso e agitado. Os momentos bons compensaram largamente os maus – e tenho sorte pelo que vivi, pelo que aprendi e especialmente por ter pessoas na minha vida que gostam de mim, com defeitos e tudo.
