One of my favourite sagas of all time is, without a doubt, Star Wars. From the characters, to the story, to the music, it’s all wonderful. Last week saw the release of the latest episode: The Last Jedi. Here are my top three reasons to watch it…

This film has some serious laugh out loud moments that work beautifully with the rest of the story to offer some respite from the action and emotion of the scenes. It’s brilliant! The script is great but the actors’ delivery makes it truly perfect – Mark Hamill’s comedic timing works so well!
Este filme tem vários momentos de rir que funcionam lindamente com o resto da história para dar algum descanso da acção e da emoção das várias cenas. O guião é incrível mas a interpretação torna-o perfeito – o timing cómico de Mark Hamill funciona tão bem!
New characters that don’t suck // Novos personagens que não irritam
Do you remember when the prequel trilogy introduced Jar-Jar Binks, the most annoying character in all the History of Cinema? Well this episode introduces a new species, the Porg, which had everything to be annoying JJB style. But in fact they are actually quite funny, and add an extra layer to the humour. There is also Rose, a young resistance fighter who shows a lot of nerve, spunk and determination.
Lembram-se de quando a trilogia das prequelas apresentou o Jar-Jar Binks, o personagem mais irritante da História do Cinema? Bom, este episódio apresenta uma nova espécie, os Porg, que tinha tudo para ser tão irritante como o JJB. Mas não, até são bastante engraçados e dão um elemento de humor extra. Também há a Rose, uma jovem combatente da Resistência que tem imensa coragem, energia e determinação.
Direction of the story // Desenvolver da história
Without giving away any spoilers, I was truly impressed and surprised with the direction in which Rian Johnson took the story. It’s at times darker, but also more inclusive – it goes beyond the Skywalker-Solo families and does so beautifully. While you could argue that The Force Awakens had obvious nods to A New Hope, this one veers further away from the original trilogy in a really interesting way. I enjoyed seeing more of Poe Dameron (not just because I love Oscar Isaac, promise!), of Finn and of Rey. And seeing Luke and Leia again was pretty special.
Sem dar spoilers, fiquei muito bem impressionada com a direcção na qual Rian Johnson levou a história. É mais ‘dark’ mas também mais inclusiva – vai para além da família Skywalker-Solo e fá-lo lindamente. Enquanto se podia dizer que O Despertar da Força tinha ligações óbvias com o Episódio IV, este distancia-se mais dos episódios originais de uma forma interessante. Gostei de ver mais do Poe Dameron (não só porque adoro o Oscar Isaac, juro!), do Finn e da Rey. E ver o Luke e a Leia de novo foi especial.
Bonus – Princess/General Leia
This was Carrie Fisher’s last film appearance before her death last year and that makes it all the more emotional. But Carrie Fisher continued to carry the role of Leia, that made her our Princess, with her humour, class, and style. Carrie Fisher gave so much of herself to the world: she was a wonderful actress, an exceptionally intelligent woman, and someone who did so much to raise awareness and end the stigma associated with mental health. She was a role model, and an inspiration. This film was a great tribute and a fitting goodbye.
Este foi o último filme que Carrie Fisher fez e isso torna-o ainda mais emotivo. Mas continuou a interpretar Leia, o papel que a tornou a nossa Princesa, com o seu humor, classe e a sua pinta. Carrie Fisher deu tanto de si ao mundo: era uma excelente actriz, uma mulher excepcionalmente inteligente e alguém que fez tanto para chamar a atenção para e acabar com o estigma associado com a saúde mental. Era um exemplo e uma inspiração. Este filme foi uma óptima homenagem e a melhor despedida.
