Hi everyone! Hope you’re well and having a great week so far 😊 In today’s post I wanted to tell you a bit about the gig I saw on Tuesday night at the O2 by one of my favourite bands of all time: Metallica.
Olá a todos! Espero que estejam bem e a ter uma boa semana até aqui 😊 No post de hoje queria contar-vos um bocadinho sobre o concerto a que fui na terça-feira na O2 arena, de uma das minhas bandas preferidas de sempre: Metallica.
I was brought up on rock n roll music from the 60s to the 80s thanks to my Dad’s love of The Beatles and my Godfather’s most awesome 80s record collection. But as a teen, influenced by the world of MTV, for a while I was mostly into boy and girl bands. That all changed when I first heard Until it Sleeps by Metallica. The guitar, the drums, the emotion, James Hetfield’s voice – it was like nothing I’d heard and I was hooked since!
Cresci a ouvir rock n roll dos aos 60 aos 80 graças ao meu Pai que adora Beatles e graças também à espectacular coleção de discos dos anos 80 do meu Padrinho. Mas em adolescente, influenciada pelo mundo da MTV, por uns tempos só ouvia boy bands e girl bands. Isso tudo mudou quando ouvi o Until it Sleeps dos Metallica pela primeira vez. A guitarra, a bateria, a emoção, a voz do James Hetfield – nunca tinha ouvido nada assim e fiquei viciada desde então!
My first Metallica gig was at Rock in Rio Lisbon in 2004, and I’ve seen them 3 other times in Lisbon, plus this Tuesday at the O2.
O meu primeiro concerto de Metallica foi no Rock in Rio Lisboa de 2004, e já os vi mais 3 vezes em Lisboa, e esta última agora na terça-feira na O2.
36 years after they started out, Metallica are still the best at their game. Their stage presence is amazing, they play like no other band and the songs are brilliant.
36 anos depois de começarem, os Metallica continuam a ser os melhores no que fazem. A presença em palco é brutal, tocam como ninguém e as músicas são brutais.
For the O2 gig the stage was set in the middle of the venue and the band went around the square shape to ensure they were seen and heard by everyone – even Lars’ drum set moved.
Para o concerto na O2, o palco estava no meio da arena e a banda ia-se posicionando à volta da sua forma quadrada para que todos os viam e ouviam – até a bateria do Lars foi virando.
The set list included several songs from the new album, Hardwired to self destruct, but quite a few of the old stuff too! As well as the classics they play at every show (Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, Seek and Destroy, etc), the guys also played Fade to Black and Creeping Death both of which sounded awesome.
O alinhamento incluiu várias músicas do novo álbum, Hardwired to self destruct, mas também bastantes das antigas! Para além dos clássicos que tocam sempre (Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, Seek and Destroy, etc), também tocaram Fade to Black e Creeping Death.
I actually quite enjoyed the light and video set up of the gig too! Above the stage were several cubes that moved up and down along with the songs and showed either clips of videos, bits of what the band were doing on stage, or images to complement the songs.
Também adorei a disposição de luzes e vídeo no concerto! Por cima do palco estavam uns cubos que se iam mexendo para cima e para baixo com as musicas a passar bocados de vídeos, o que a banda estava a fazer-nos palco, ou imagens para acompanhar o que estavam a tocar.
Rob did his solo to a video of the late great Cliff Burton head banging showing up on the cubes (beautiful and emotional!) and at the end of the set a bunch of images of Metallica and London showed up as well, like a Union Jack or a tube sign with Metallica written in the middle.
O Rob fez o solo com um video do grande Cliff Burton a passar nos cubos (bonito e emotivo!) e no fim passaram imagens de Metallica e Londres, como uma Union Jack ou um símbolo do metro com Metallica escrito no meio.
I can’t quite decide what was the song I enjoyed the most – I always love One and Master of Puppets for the beautiful melodies, the lyrics and Kirk’s solos. For Whom the Bell Tolls was another favourite because it is such a powerful song. Who am I kidding – I loved it all!
Nao consigo decidir qual foi a minha musica preferida – adoro sempre One e Master of Puppets pelas melodias lindas, as letras e os solos do Kirk. For Whom the Bell Tolls também foi outra favorita porque é tão poderosa. Quem é que estou a tentar enganar – adorei tudo!
I’ve got a few concerts coming up and I’m so excited for them because there is really nothing I love more than seeing great music played live!
Tenho bilhetes para alguns concertos em breve e mal posso esperar porque não há mesmo nada de que goste tanto como de ver música ao vivo!
