Hi guys! Hope you’re doing well 🙂 First of all, sorry for the lack of posts over the weekend – I have finally moved to my new flat and was busy getting everything sorted! Today I thought I’d share a couple of things I learned in the process of moving flats, in the hopes that it might help those of you who’ll be doing that soon.
Olá a todos! Espero que estejam bem 🙂 Antes de mais, desculpem pela falta de posts durante o passado fim-de-semana – mudei finalmente para o apartamento novo e estive ocupada a organizar tudo! Hoje pensei que podia partilhar convosco umas coisas que aprendi neste processo, na esperança que possa ajudar aqueles que possam ir mudar de casa em breve.
Get the details sorted // Não esquecer os detalhes
I had a couple of misunderstandings with the estate agents while in the process of renting this flat, from the monthly price, to the contract duration, to the move in date, to what the rent included. So my top tip is to ensure you have everything written down, that all the details are agreed.
Tive alguns mal-entendidos com a agência imobiliária no processo de alugar este apartamento, desde o valor da renda, à duração do contrato, à data de entrada, até ao que estava incluído na renda. Por isso a minha primeira dica é certificar que tudo está escrito, e que todos os detalhes são acordados.
Assume nothing. Even if you’ve been told, for example, that broadband will be included in the rent – check what specifically this means. It happened to me – it’s not fun to expect one thing and get a different one in the end. Save yourself the stress and ensure everything is covered upfront.
Não “partir do princípio” em relação a nada. Mesmo que vos tenham dito, por exemplo, que a renda inclui internet – verifiquem que percebem ao certo o que querem dizer. Isto aconteceu-me – não é divertido estar à espera de uma coisa e no fim ver outra. Poupem o stress e certifiquem-se que tudo está tratado logo no início.
Over budget // Fazer o orçamento por cima
Moving will inevitably be more expensive than you expect. From costs of getting packing material, to hiring a man with a van, to organising bills, etc. It will be expensive – make sure you save up, and beyond what you think you’ll spend.
Mudar de casa vai inevitavelmente ser mais caro do que estão à espera. Desde os gastos com material para empacotar uma casa, a contratar um serviço de mudanças, a organizar as contas, etc. Vai ser caro – não se esqueçam de poupar e mais do que aquilo que acham que vão gastar.
There’s always more stuff // Há sempre mais coisas
I thought I didn’t have all that much stuff. I donated clothes and books recently, I kept my wardrobe quite minimal…But when I started packing, it seemed that everywhere I looked there was something else I’d forgotten to pack!
Pensei que não tinha assim muita coisa. Tinha feito donativos de roupas e livros recentemente, o meu guarda-roupa não tem muita coisa…Mas quando comecei a empacotar, parecia que para onde olhasse estava mais uma coisa que me tinha esquecido de empacotar!
Clothes, books, kitchen stuff, bathroom stuff. There’s always more stuff. So when getting boxes and hiring a van for the move, more is definitely better.
Roupas, livros, coisas de cozinha, se casa de banho. Há sempre mais coisas. Então quando se compram caixas e se marca uma carrinha para a mudança, maior é sempre melhor.
Do a food order // Mandem vir uma entrega de supermercado
The last thing you want to be doing on moving day is worrying about food. So what I did was set up an Ocado delivery to my new flat on the evening of moving day. This was the best idea. I got all the food I would need for the week and set about cooking myself dinner – a brilliant way to start feeling more at home!
A última coisa que queria no dia da mudança, era estar preocupada com comida. Então o que fiz foi mandar vir uma entrega de um supermercado online para o fim da tarde do dia da mudança. Foi a melhor ideia. Mandei vir toda a comida que precisava para a semana e comecei a cozinhar o jantar – uma óptima maneira de me sentir mais em casa.
Also, if you move in the morning (which I’d recommend as you have the whole day to unpack and adjust), order lunch from Deliveroo or something similar. One less thing to worry about!
Mais, se mudarem de manhã (coisa que recomendo porque ficam com o resto do dia para desempacotar e se adaptarem à nova casa), mandem vir o almoço de um serviço de entregas. Menos uma preocupação!
Unpack ASAP // Desempacotar o mais depressa possível
I started unpacking and tidying the flat straight away. Within two hours of arriving, the boxes were empty, my plates, glasses, cups and other kitchenware were safely in their cupboards, and everything else was starting to go in their new places.
Comecei a desempacotar e a arrumar a casa logo que cheguei. Duas horas depois as caixas estavam vazias, os pratos, copos, canecas e outras coisas de cozinha estavam nos armários e tudo o resto estava a começar a estar nos seus devidos sítios.
Of course, this left me absolutely exhausted and the next day I had aches in parts of my body I forgotten could ache that much. But it was worth it! By the evening I had a mostly tidy flat where I could start getting organised.
Claro que isto me deixou completamente exausta e no dia seguinte tinha dores em partes do corpo que eu nem me lembrava que podiam doer assim tanto. Mas valeu a pena! Ao fim da tarde já tinha uma casa mais ou menos arrumada onde me podia começar a organizar.
