Choosing Plants

Hi guys 🙂 Today’s is another post related to the move, to tell you about the plants I chose for the flat.

Bom dia 🙂 O post de hoje é mais um relacionado com a mudança, para vos contar sobre as plantas que escolhi para ter em casa.

I knew I wanted to add a bit of greenery to the flat. It’s a really bright space and it’s begging for some life!

Sabia que queria ter algo verde. É um espaço cheio de luz e estava a pedir vida!

But I’m not particularly good at keeping plants – I managed to kill a succulent a couple of months ago, and they’re some of the toughest plants…

Mas eu não tenho muito jeito para plantas – consegui dar cabo de uma suculenta há uns meses e são das plantas mais resistentes…

So I headed to West Six Garden Centre to browse and ask for advice. Incidentally the Garden Centre, which is just at the edge of Ravenscourt Park, is amazing and has the best coffee house.

Então dirigi-me ao West Six Garden Centre para dar uma vista de olhos e pedir conselhos. Já agora, o Garden Centre, que fica na ponta do Ravenscourt Park, é espectacular e tem um café óptimo.

But I digress. I asked the lovely lady there to help me pick some plants that could deal well with brightness and light, but that were, simply put, low maintenance.

Mas estou a desviar-me do assunto principal. Pedi à senhora super simpática que lá estava para me ajudar a escolher plantas que se dessem bem com luz mas que fossem, posto de forma simples, fáceis.

After looking around to all the plants that could be suitable, I settled on the Clusia Rosea Princess, a plant originally from the Caribbean that does well in bright spaces and doesn’t require a lot of watering.

Depois de ver as plantas que podiam servir, decidi-me pela Clusia Rosea Princess, uma planta originária das Caraíbas que se dá bem em espaços com muita luz e não precisa de muita água.

I knew I wanted something to help purify the air as well and I’d read that Aloe Vera was great for that – so I picked up one too!

Sabia que também queria qualquer coisa para purificar o ar e li que Aloe Vera era óptimo para isso – por isso também trouxe um vaso dele.

The instructions I got couldn’t have been easier: water them when you get home. Then feel the compost occasionally and water when it’s dry. The Clusia does not like to have soggy roots, it will rot, but it’s fine to have just a bit of water at the bottom of the pot when you water it – it will absorb. The Aloe Vera should be watered in the sink just with the draining pot, and only watered until it drips at the bottom.

As instruções que a senhora me deu não podiam ser mais fáceis: regar ao chegar a casa. Depois ir sentindo a terra e por água quando a sentisse seca. A Clusia não gosta de ter raízes molhadas, apodrece, mas não faz mal deixar um bocadinho de água no fundo do vaso porque ela absorve. O Aloe Vera deve ser regado no lava louça só com o pote em que vem e só regado até saírem gotas de água por baixo.

I’m looking forward to seeing how I get on caring for my two plant babies – and hopefully add some more in the future!
