#1 Dunkirk
Last Sunday I headed to my favourite Cineworld, in Leicester Square, to watch Christopher Nolan’s new film in IMAX – and I’m so glad I did! The film looks at this momentous event in the Second World War from different perspectives, showing both the suffering and determination of those involved. And it does this through the most beautiful war scenes I’ve ever seen, and with a phenomenal cast – this film is definitely going to be remembered as a masterpiece.
No último domingo fui ao meu cinema preferido, o Cineworld na Leicester Square, ver o novo filme do Cristopher Nolan em IMAX – e ainda bem que o fiz! O filme segue este momento importante da Segunda Guerra Mundial de diferentes perspectivas, mostrando o sofrimento e a determinação de quem esteve envolvido nele. E fá-lo através das cenas de guerra mais bonitas que já vi, com um elenco fenomenal – este filme vai claramente ficar como uma obra prima.
#2 Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk
Mid-week I finished reading this fantastic book by Kathleen Rooney, and I loved it so much! The book follows Lillian Boxfish, an 84 year old lady, as she walks around Manhattan on New Year’s Eve 1984, reminiscing over her life from big name of advertising to motherhood and beyond.
A meio da semana acabei de ler este livro fantástico de Kathleen Rooney e adorei! O livro segue Lillian Boxfish, uma senhora de 84 anos, num passeio por Manhattan na noite de passagem de ano de 1984, enquanto se vai lembrando de episódios da sua vida desde ser grande nome da publicidade, até à maternidade e por aí além.
As Lillian wanders through New York she is reminded of different aspects of her life and the way she tells the stories is beautifully written. Lillian is a witty, kind, genuinely honest character that is flawed but impressive. The way the issues with work, falling in love, and mental health are handled by the author really struck a chord me as well – honest but beautiful! Definitely recommend this one.
Enquanto Lillian passeia por Nova Iorque vai-se lembrando de diferentes aspectos da sua vida e a forma como conta as suas histórias está muitíssimo bem escrita. A Lillian é uma personagem perspicaz, gentil, e genuinamente honesta que tem defeitos mas é impressionante. Adorei também a forma como as questões do trabalho, de se apaixonar e da saúde mental são abordadas pela autora – de forma honesta mas bonita! Vale mesmo a pena ler.
#3 Pattern Coffee
I’ve often walked past this coffee shop in Caledonian Road but only recently did I think to go in. But I’m glad I did! The shop itself is decorated in a colourful way, with wall art and beautiful odd objects around. And the coconut latte I had was delicious too! Definitely try it if you’re around.
Já passei várias vezes por este café na Caledonian Road em Londres, mas só recentemente lá entrei. Mas ainda bem que o fiz! A loja em si está decorada de forma colorida com paredes artísticas e objectos estranhos e giros por todo o lado. E o Latte com leite de côco que lá comprei também era delicioso! Vale a pena experimentar se por lá passarem.
