#1 The Handmaid’s Tale
This week I finished this classic book that inspired this year’s TV series with Elisabeth Moss. How much I LOVED it cannot be put into words.
Esta semana acabei este livro clássico que inspirou a série deste ano com Elisabeth Moss. Não consigo por em palavras o quanto ADOREI este livro.
From describing a totalitarian society where women have no rights with wit, to making you think about just how easily, with the current political climate, it would be for us to get to a similar situation, to showing people’s different reactions to times of strife. It is, like a friend said this week, a gut punch. But one that is absolutely worth taking – and a book that everyone, particularly every woman, should read.
Desde descrever uma sociedade totalitária onde as mulheres não têm direitos de uma forma perspicaz, a fazer-nos pensar em quão facilmente, com o clima político actual, seria de chegar a uma situação semelhante, a mostrar as diferentes reacções das pessoas em tempos de dificuldades. É, como dizia uma amiga esta semana, um murro no estômago. Mas um que vale absolutamente a pena levar – e um livro que toda a gente devia ler, especialmente as mulheres.
#2 Lily Lolo Products from Content Beauty
As a little treat after a difficult few days I headed to Content Beauty one day after work and came out with a few Lily Lolo products.
Como mimo a mim mesma depois de uns dias difíceis, fui à Content Beauty um dia depois do trabalho e saí de lá com alguns produtos da Lily Lolo.
The brand is British, it is natural, and is absurdly well priced. The products I’ve tried are incredible. I love the nice flush of colour I get from the super smooth powder blush, and the eye palette is absolutely perfect for just a wash of colour everyday, or to create more complete looks for special occasions. The lipstick is also lovely, but the colour didn’t work for me – it seemed great when I tried in store, but then applying from the bullet it is a bit too Barbie pink.
A marca é britânica, é natural, e é super barata. Os produtos que experimentei são incríveis. Adoro a cor que me dá o blush em pó que é super macio, e a o conjunto de sombras de olhos é perfeito seja só para um bocadinho de cor no quotidiano, ou para criar um look mais completo para ocasiões especiais. O batom também é bom, mas a cor não me fica bem – parecia óptimo quando o experimentei na loja, mas depois posto do batom em si fica muito rosa Barbie.
#3 Semi Social Media black out
Last week, after coming back from Portugal, I wasn’t in the happiest of places and struggled with a peak in Anxiety that made me lose focus. I was checking Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram more often than I care to admit, and my mind was racing.
Na semana passada, depois de vir de Portugal, não estava a ter um momento muito feliz e estava a lidar com um pico de Ansiedade que me fez perder a concentração. Estava a ver o Facebook, o Twitter e o Instagram bem mais do que gosto de admitir, e a minha cabeça estava a mil à hora.
Luckily I talked to my friend A, who suggested a social media black out, in which I was only allowed the blog stuff (so my blog Instagram stayed on, and so did Facebook pages) and messages. Everything else was off. And it has stayed like that. It did me a world of good. I don’t feel the need to constantly be on my phone, the anxiety reduced massively and I was able to focus more on ,and be more productive at, work.
Por sorte falei com a minha amiga A, que sugeriu um apagão das redes sociais, onde só podia usar as coisas do blog (por isso o Instagram do blog ficou ligado, bem como a app Facebook Pages) e as mensagens. Tudo o resto foi desligado. E tem ficado assim. Fez-me imenso bem. Não sinto a necessidade de estar constantemente a olhar para o telemóvel, a Ansiedade diminuiu imenso e consegui-me concentrar mais e ser mais produtiva no trabalho.
