Three Little Things #16

#1 Portugal won the ESC! // Portugal ganhou a Eurovisão!

It still feels unreal. Portugal, represented by Salvador Sobral (#salvadorable) and the beautiful ballad Amar Pelos Dois, won the Eurovision. We have been participating for over 50 years and never even came close. When the votes started coming in and we got so many compliments and ’12 points’ across the board my heart was tight and ready to burst in equal measures. I love the Eurovision so much and this year was so special! 
Ainda me parece surreal. Portugal, representado por Salvador Sobral (#salvadorable) e a bonita balada Amar Pelos Dois, ganhou a Eurovisão. Participamos há mais de 50 anos e nunca sequer chegámos perto. Quando os votos começaram a entrar e Portugal recebeu imensos elogios e ’12 points’ de todos os lados o meu coração estava igualmente apertado e prestes a explodir. Adoro a Eurovisão e este ano foi super especial!

#2 Catching up with long distance friends // Por a conversa em dia com amigas à distância

For the past few days I have been in Budapest, where my friend B lives as she is from here and is back to do her Masters. We talk frequently on whatsapp but even though that is great, catching up face to face and spending time exploring the city and chatting about all kinds of random stuff is so much better! I love Budapest, and also got really lucky with the weather so far, but definitely it’s been much better because of B’s company!

Nos últimos dias tenho estado em Budapeste, onde vive a minha amiga B que é de cá e regressou para fazer um mestrado. Falamos frequentemente no whatsapp mas embora isso seja óptimo, por a conversa em dia ao vivo e passar tempo a explorar a cidade e a falar sobre tudo e sobre nada é tão melhor! Adoro Budapeste, tive imensa sorte com o tempo até agora, mas tudo isto tem sido ainda melhor por causa da companhia da B!

#3 The Danube // O Danúbio

I know it’s a bit random to have a river as a highlight of the week, but hear me out. One of my earliest festive memories is having New Year’s Day lunch at my grandparents’ house, followed by an afternoon watching the New Year’s concert of the Vienna Philarmonic. The Blue Danube by Johann Strauss is the best part of the show, it’s the penultimate piece and it always sends shivers down my spine. The huge and beautiful river that inspired that glorious piece of music never ceases to amaze me.

Eu sei que é um bocado estranho ter um rio nos destaques da semana, mas deixem-me explicar. Uma das minhas mais antigas memórias da época festiva é ter o almoço de Ano Novo em casa dos meus avós, seguido de uma tarde a ver o concerto de Ano Novo da Orquestra Filarmónica de Viena. A valsa Danúbio Azul, de Johann Strauss, é a melhor parte do espectáculo, é a penúltima peça tocada e dá-me sempre arrepios. O enorme e lindíssimo rio que inspirou essa maravilhosa peça de música nunca deixa de me impressionar.
