May Favourites

May is my favourite month of the year, bar none. Not just because it is my birthday month, but also because the weather is usually nicer but not yet unbearable. And, you know, two bank holidays don’t hurt either! This year the month of May did not disappoint, and brought along excellent moments and experiences. Here are my favourites of the month.

Maio é o meu mês preferido do ano, sem dúvida. Não só porque é o meu mês de aniversário, mas também porque o tempo normalmente está mais agradável mas ainda não está insuportável. E, vá, ter dois feriado também não é mau! Este ano o mês de Maio não desiludiu e trouxe momentos e experiências excelentes. Aqui ficam os meus favoritos deste mês.

#1 Birthday Celebrations // Celebrações de Aniversário

This year I was lucky enough to have not one, but two birthday celebrations, one with friends, and one with family. Both were brunches because, well, that’s my favourite thing to do! 

Este ano tive a sorte de ter não uma, mas duas celebrações de aniversário, uma com amigas e outra com a família. Ambas foram brunches porque, enfim, é a minha coisa preferida!

The first was a bottomless brunch with my girlfriends at Le Bon Vivant near Russell Square, which is very cool and has great food. The second, with all my cousins, was a regular brunch at 108 Brasserie in Marylebone Lane. The food was nice, and spending time with all my cousins on the day of my actual birthday was great!

O primeiro foi um bottomless brunch com as minhas amigas no Le Bon Vivant ao pé de Russell Square, que é muito giro e tem óptima comida. O segundo, com as minhas primas e primos, foi um brunch mais típico na 108 Brasserie na Marylebone Lane. A comida era boa e passar tempo com a família no dia de anos propriamente dito foi óptimo!

#2 Budapest // Budapeste

I’d been wanting to go to Budapest since last June when my friend B moved back there. This was finally the month for that trip and I absolutely loved it! 

Desde Junho passado, quando a minha amiga B voltou para Budapeste, que tenho andado a querer ir lá. Este foi finalmente o mês da visita e adorei cada minuto!

The weather was glorious, we had incredible food and drinks, and visited some gorgeous sights – add to all of that the bonus of catching up with one of my besties, and you’ll understand why this was one of the best trips ever.

O tempo esteve magnífico, comemos muito bem, tomámos uns copos óptimos e vimos sítios lindos – adicionando a isso o bónus de por a conversa em dia com uma das minhas melhores amigas, já da para perceber porque é que esta foi uma das minhas melhores viagens.

I think the highlight for me were the Gellért Baths – I had had a couple of stressful weeks at work and spending a whole morning between different pools, enjoying the sunshine and just relaxing was exactly what I needed!

Acho que o grande destaque, para mim, foram as Termas Gellért – tinha tido umas semanas stressantes no trabalho e passar uma manhã entre diferentes piscinas, a gozar o sol e a relaxar foi exactamente o que eu estava a precisar!

#3 New haircut // Novo corte de cabelo

Ok, so this one has actually only happened a few days ago but it still counts…I had been debating cutting my hair short for a while, especially for the past two months – and finally I took the risk and did it. 

Ok, este só aconteceu há uns dias, mas ainda conta…Há tempos que andava a pensar cortar o cabelo curto, especialmente de há dois meses para cá – e finalmente decidi-me e cortei!

I booked an appointment with Samuel at Hershesons and last Saturday morning off I went. Samuel understood what I wanted straight away and, no joke, gave me one of the best haircuts I have ever had. The compliments I’ve received from friends and family since have been insane, and I’m super pleased with how it turned out!

Marquei uma hora com o Samuel no salão Hershesons e no sábado passado pela manhã lá fui eu. O Samuel percebeu logo o que eu queria e, sem exagero, fez-me o melhor corte de cabelo que alguma vez tive. Os elogios que tenho recebido da família e dos amigos desde que cortei o cabelo têm sido de doidos e estou tão satisfeita com o resultado!

#4 Portuguese pride // Orgulho tuga

On the 13th I both discovered a great new (to me) Portuguese restaurant, Canela, and celebrated the first ever Portuguese win of the Eurovision. It was a very Portuguese day for me and I loved every bit of it!

No dia 13 descobri um óptimo novo (para mim) restaurante Português, Canela, e celebrei a primeira vitória de sempre de Portugal na Eurovisão. Foi um dia muito tuga para mim e adorei cada bocadinho!

As you’ll see in my post dedicated to it, Canela really surprised me for the great quality of their food and wines – I’m now trying to organise a dinner with friends there, that’s how much I loved it.

Como podem ver no post que lhe dediquei, o Canela surpreendeu-me pela alta qualidade da comida e do vinho – agora estou a tentar organizar um jantar com amigas lá, o que mostra o quanto gostei de lá ir!

The Eurovision made me really excited because I never, ever, thought that I’d see Portugal win. I was a bit sceptical about the song at first, but it won me over the more I listened. I was so excited to finally hear the famous ’12 points’ given to Portugal!

A Eurovisão deixou-me super feliz porque nunca, mesmo nunca, tinha pensado ver Portugal ganhar. Tinha dúvidas em relação à canção de início, mas foi-me conquistando quanto mais a ouvia. Fiquei tão entusiasmada de finalmente ouvir os famosos ’12 points’ dados a Portugal!

#5 Banqueting House

I love finding new places to visit in London after all the years I’ve lived here. This month I discovered Banqueting Hall, the only remaining part of Henry VIII’s Whitehall Palace that is still standing. This room is grand and absolutely beautiful, especially when you notice the ceilings: they’re enormous panels by the Flemish Master Peter Paul Rubens. They’re incredible works of art with stunning detail, definitely worth a visit.

Adoro encontrar novos sítios para visitar em Londres depois de viver cá tantos anos. Este mês descobri o Banqueting Hall, a única parte sobrevivente do Palácio de Whitehall do Rei Henrique VIII. Esta sala é grandiosa e lindíssima, especialmente quando reparamos nos tectos: são painéis enormes do Mestre Flamengo Peter Paul Rubens. São obras de arte incríveis e com detalhes magníficos, vale bem a pena visitar.
