Budapest City Guide

Hello! 🙂 Today’s post is a city guide to Budapest! The Hungarian capital has so much to see and do, it’s definitely one to add to any travel Bucket List! I’d recommend having an idea of monuments and places you’d like to see, but Budapest is a city where walking around and exploring is the best way to discover its beauty! Here are my tips.

Olá! 🙂 O post de hoje é um city guide de Budapeste! A capital húngara tem tanto para ver e fazer, é definitivamente uma cidade obrigatória em qualquer Bucket List de viagens! Vale a pena ter uma ideia dos monumentos e sítios que querem ver, mas Budapeste é uma cidade onde passear a pé e explorar é mesmo a melhor maneira de descobrir a sua beleza! Aqui ficam as minhas dicas.

Where to Stay // Onde ficar

For this visit I booked a single room in the Casati Hotel, a boutique hotel on the Pest side of town. The room I got was beautiful, clean and really comfortable. The breakfast was also rather lovely!
Para esta visita marquei um quarto de uma pessoa no Hotel Casati, um hotel boutique no lado Pest da cidade. O quarto em que fiquei era bonito, limpo e super confortável. E o pequeno almoço também era bastante bom!

The best thing was the location – it is a stone’s throw from the Opera and as such it’s really close to all the sights, and to the Jewish district where the Ruin Pubs and other cool bars are located.

A melhor parte foi a localização – fica a um pulo da Ópera e como tal é pertissimo de todos os monumentos e do bairro Judeu onde ficam os Bares de Ruínas e outros bares giros.

What to visit // O que visitar

Start with a trip up the funicular to the Buda Castle and explore the hill. Head to Matthias Church and marvel at the colourful roofs! And then check out the Fisherman’s Bastion and the most incredible views over the Danube.

Comecem com uma subida de funicular até ao Castelo de Buda e explorem o monte. Dirijam-se à Igreja de São Mateus e deixem-se maravilhar pelos telhados tão coloridos! E depois explorem o Bastião do Pescador, que tem vistas belíssimas sobre o Danúbio.

Back down the hill, it’s worth taking a walk along the Danube on the Buda side towards the Parliament – it’s probably the most beautiful and impressive building I have ever seen and the view from here is to die for! You can always take the metro over to the Parliament Square which helps if you’re very tired!

De volta ao nível do rio, vale a pena caminhar ao longo dele no lado Buda até ao Parlamento – é possivelmente o edifício mais bonito e impressionante que já vi e a vista deste lado do rio é de cair para o lado! Podem sempre depois apanhar o metro para a praça do Parlamento, o que ajuda se estiverem mesmo cansados!

To relax and enjoy the nice weather, the Gellért baths are incredible! The building is art nouveau and the decorations around the pools are stunning. For 5300HUF (ca £15) you can buy a day pass and spend as much time as you want enjoying the several pools and the sauna. My favourite was the biggest outside pool with the artificial waves every hour on the hour. Silly, but so much fun!

Para descansar e gozar do bom tempo, as Termas Gellért são incríveis! O edifício é art nouveau e as decorações em redor das piscinas são lindíssimas. Por 5300HUF (ca €17)  podem comprar um passe diário e passar o tempo que quiserem lá dentro a gozar das várias piscinas e da sauna. A minha preferida foi a principal piscina exterior com as ondas artificiais à hora certa. Disparatado, mas tão divertido!

We also took a day trip to Szentendre, a little town on the Danube that is so quaint and pretty! If you have the time, definitely check it out.

Também fomos passar um dia a Szentendre, uma cidade pequena à beira do Danúbio, que é tão engraçada e bonita! Se tiverem tempo, vale a pena visitar.

Where to eat // Onde comer

Budapest has so many brilliant food places that it’s hard to make a small selection – which is why I will put up a more detailed post on this soon. 

Budapeste tem sítios de comida óptimos, o que torna difícil reduzir a uma lista pequena – razão pela qual vou fazer um post mais detalhado sobre isto em breve.

My favourite places were Hello Paneer, a breaded cheese restaurant that is very much a treat, but truly delicious; Gelarto Rosa, that has delicious ice cream that is then shaped like a rose on the cone; and Karavan Street Food, an outside space with different street food stands to choose from.

Os meus sítios preferidos foram o Hello Paneer, um restaurante de queijo panado que é uma coisa para comer só raramente, mas mesmo delicioso; Gelarto Rosa, que tem gelados deliciosos que são postos em forma de rosa no cone; e Karavan Street Food, um espaço exterior com vários stands de street food por onde escolher. 

Keep in mind // A lembrar

The weather can be unpredictable in Budapest, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the forecast. If it’s going to be sunny and warm, do ensure you wear light summer clothes and that you put on sunscreen before going out to explore! Trust me…

O tempo pode ser imprevisível em Budapest, por isso vale a pena prestar atenção às previsões. Se for estar sol e calor, certifiquem-se de que vestem roupas de verão leves e que põem protector solar antes de sair! Acreditem no que vos digo…

If it’s spring, chances are that polen will be flying about – if you suffer from hay fever, be prepared.

Se forem na Primavera, o mais provável é que ande pólen a voar por todos os lados – se sofrerem com a febre dos fenos, vão preparados.

Also, if you’re heading to the baths, don’t forget your flip flops, bathing suit, a towel (if you have a small microfibre one, bring that!), and also a swim cap, as some of the pools require it.

Além disso, se forem às termas não se esqueçam de umas havaianas, fato de banho/bikini, uma toalha (se tiverem uma pequena de microfibra, tragam essa!), e também uma touca já que algumas piscinas só deixam entrar se tiverem uma.

Aside from that, get some comfortable shoes on, and get wandering around – it’s always the best way to explore!

Tirando isso, calcem sapatos confortáveis e comecem a passear sem rumo – é sempre a melhor forma de explorar!
