Paris Guide

Hello! 🙂 Today’s post is a little guide to Paris, based on my quick visit there last week. It was a fantastic trip and I discovered some great new things, so hopefully this can give you some ideas if you’re planning a visit!

Olá! 🙂 O post de hoje é um pequeno guia de Paris, baseado na minha pequena visita na semana passada. Foi uma viagem fantástica e descobri óptimas coisas novas, por isso espero que este post vos possa dar algumas ideias se estiverem a planear uma visita!

Where to stay // Onde ficar

As I mentioned in my latest Three Little Things post, this time I stayed in the wonderful Hotel Le Lapin Blanc. It’s a great hotel, very comfortable and with excellent decor and service – and best of all a brilliant location! It’s only a short RER train ride away from the Gare du Nord, so if you’re coming from London on the Eurostar that’s super convenient. Le Lapin Blanc is located in Boulevard Saint Michel, in the uber cool Rive Gauche near the Sorbonne and really well served for transport.
Como referi no meu último post Three Little Things, desta vez fiquei no Hotel Le Lapin Blanc. É um óptimo hotel, muito confortável, com decoração e serviço excelentes – e o melhor é que está num sítio óptimo! Fica apenas à distância de uma curta viagem de comboio RER da Gare du Nord, por isso se vierem de Londres no Eurostar é super conveniente. Mas também é a linha que serve os dois aeroportos! O Le Lapin Blanc fica na Boulevard Saint Michel, na zona mega cool da Rive Gauche perto da Sorbonne e tem imensos transportes perto.

What to visit // O que visitar

This time I mostly took the time to wander around and explore the beautiful city but I did catch a great exhibition at the Musée d’Orsay and finally visited the Musée Rodin – both excellent and not to be missed.

Desta vez aproveitei mais para passear e explorar a cidade, mas vi uma óptima exposição no Musée d’Orsay e visitei finalmente o Musée Rodin – ambos excelentes e imperdíveis!

In terms of tourist sites, I went to see the Eiffel Tower (from the Trocadero) at sunrise and boy was that worth it! Definitely less busy than I had ever seen it, although there still were some fellow tourists around. But the Iron Lady in the morning light is something special and worth the early morning wake up call.

No que toca a sítios turísticos, fui ver a Torre Eiffel (do Trocadero) ao nascer do sol e caramba que valeu bem a pena! Muito menos cheia de gente do que alguma vez a tinha visto, embora ainda andassem por lá outros turistas. Mas a Dama de Ferro à luz da manhã é mesmo especial e vale bem a pena acordar cedo.

Where to eat // Onde Comer

My favourite discovery was the Bar à Iode, at number 34 Boulevard Saint Germain (right next to the very first Diptyque store, for all the perfume lovers out there). It is a brilliantly cool fish and sea food restaurant, very popular (so book in advance if you can) and with great service. The food was superb, from the octupus salad I had as a starter, through the main course, to dessert and even the wine, and the prices were quite reasonable.

A minha descoberta preferida foi o Bar à Iode, No 34 Boulevard Saint Germain (mesmo ao lado da primeira loja da Diptyque, para todos os fãs de perfume que por aí andem). É um restaurante com óptima pinta de peixe e marisco, muito popular (marquem com antecedência se puderem) e com óptimo atendimento. A comida era óptima, desde a salada de polvo de entrada, ao prato principal, à sobremesa e mesmo ao vinho, e os preços são bastante razoáveis!

For a more traditional meal I’d recommend Bouillon Racine, a beautiful Art Nouveau restaurant that’s been open since 1906 and has excellent food and service at good prices.

Para uma refeição mais tradicional, recomendaria o Bouillon Racine, um restaurante Art Nouveau lindo que abriu em 1906 e tem óptima comida e atendimento a bons preços.

Where to shop // Onde ir às compras 

For a shopping experience that’s a little out of the ordinary, visit Merci, on the Boulevard Beaumarchais. The store dedicates the main part of its space to a different theme every few weeks – at the moment it’s ‘mon beau vélo’ (‘my beautiful bike’), dedicated to the accessories of the urban ciclist. And aside from that it has excellent clothes and home sections that breathe ‘cool’ and two coffee shop spaces – one of them in a library that is the stuff of dreams.

Para uma experiência de compras um bocadinho fora do comum, visitem a Merci, na Boulevard Beaumarchais. A loja dedica a parte principal do seu espaço a um tema diferente durante um certo número de semanas – quando eu visitei era ‘mon beau vélo’ (‘a minha linda bicicleta’) dedicado aos acessórios do ciclista urbano. E para além disso tem secções espectaculares de roupa e casa que transpiram ‘pinta’ e dois espaços de café – um deles é uma biblioteca e é de sonhos.

Not far from Merci, I also discovered the beautiful Marais store of a brand that’s been catching my eye on Instagram for years, Des Petits Hauts. The brand has beautiful, high quality clothes and the store decor is dreamy. Plus it sells the coolest bags from a newish Portuguese brand called Toino Abel that’s now definitely on my radar for Summer.

Não muito longe da Merci também descobri a loja do Marais de uma marca que tem chamado a minha atenção no Instagram há anos, Des Petits Hauts. A marca tem roupas lindas de boa qualidade e a decoração da loja é de cair para o lado. Para mais vende as  carteiras mais giras de uma marca portuguesa relativamente nova, Toino Abel, que agora está no meu radar para o Verão.

Just wander around. Pick an area that interests you, and wander, it’s worth it!

Passeiem. Escolham uma zona que vos interesse e passeiem, vale a pena!

After visiting Merci and Des Petits Hauts I headed down to Rue Crémieux, possibly one of the most insta-famous streets in Paris and spent a while there appreciating the beautiful coloured houses, then headed to the river and made my way back to the hotel walking along the Seine.

Depois de visitar a Merci e a Des Petits Hauts dirigi-me para a Rue Crémieux, possivelmente uma das ruas de Paris mais insta-famosa, e passei lá um bocado a apreciar as casas coloridas, indo depois para perto do rio e caminhando até ao hotel ao logo do Sena.

The next day, after seeing the sunrise over the Eiffel Tower, I spent some time wandering around the nearby streets and appreciating the beautiful architecture and detail in the surrounding buildings.

No dia seguinte, depois de ver o nascer do sol na Torre Eiffel, passei algum tempo a passear pelas ruas lá perto a admirar a arquitectura linda e os detalhes nos prédios ali à volta.

Finally on my last day I headed to Montmartre and then to the Marais and wandered around those areas, exploring, taking in every day habits of the people who live around there and appreciating the everyday beauty of these cool areas.

Finalmente no meu último dia dirigi-me a Montmartre primeiro e depois ao Marais e passeei por essas áreas, a explorar e a absorver os hábitos quotidianos das pessoas que vivem por lá, a apreciar a beleza do dia-a-dia destas zonas.
