Today’s post is a little different. I’ve been struggling with how to approach the subject, and thinking if I should even do it. But it is Christmas, and taking a quote from Home Alone, this is “the season of perpetual hope”.
O post de hoje é ligeiramente diferente do habitual. Tenho estado a pensar sobre como abordar o tema, e/ou se o devia abordar de todo. Mas é Natal e, usando uma frase do Sozinho em Casa, esta é “a época da esperança perpétua”.
2016 has been a crappy year. Very crappy. Like, when you thought it couldn’t get worse, bam, it did. And I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve felt helpless.
2016 foi uma porcaria de ano. Uma grande porcaria. Tipo, quando se pensava que não podia ser pior, pimba, lá acontecia mais qualquer coisa. Perdi a conta à quantidade de vezes em que me senti completamente desamparada.
The recent images coming out of Aleppo (and Syria in general) are heartbreaking. I cannot begin to make sense of it – nor do I want to. Nothing can make those atrocities justifiable.
As imagens que têm surgido de Aleppo (e da Síria no geral) são arrepiantes. Não consigo fazer sentido de tudo aquilo – nem quero. Nada pode justificar atrocidades assim.
But we can help. There are many organisations that work directly in Syria, supporting people who have lost everything, who have lost someone, who have been injured.
Mas podemos ajudar. Há várias organizações a trabalhar directamente na Síria, dando apoio a pessoas que perderam tudo, que perderam alguém, que ficaram feridas.
If you are feeling horrified too get informed, read the news (on credible news platforms please!), find what organisations are working directly in Syria and the affected areas and how you can help them.

As we come to the end of the year I choose to be hopeful. For a brighter future, for peace, for a world where everyone is accepted and respected irrespective of differences.
À medida em que nos aproximamos do final do ano, eu escolho ter esperança. Num futuro melhor, na paz, num mundo em que toda a gente é respeitada e aceite independentemente das diferenças.
Come to think of it, for a world where our differences are embraced and appreciated because they are what makes us awesome.
Pensando bem, por um mundo onde as diferenças sejam celebradas e apreciaras porque são o que nos torna espectaculares.
It won’t happen in a day or two, but maybe if we work to change mentalities, step by step we will build a fairer, more accepting and most of all peaceful world.
Não vai acontecer num dia ou dois, mas talvez se trabalharmos para mudar mentalidades, então passo a passo talvez possamos construir um mundo mais justo, mais inclusivo e com paz.
