I’ve mentioned several times how big of a Harry Potter fan I am. I’ve read and re-read the books, know big parts of the films by heart, have visited the studios twice, and am a proud Hufflepuff.

No surprise, then, that I was itching to go see Fantastic Beasts as soon as it came out. There was a little anxiety about it, I’m always worried that new Wizarding World things won’t be as good. But when Angéline said it was incredible on Snapchat, and my friend M said she loved it, I was convinced. Straight to the cinema I went, and in to the first available session.
Não será, portanto, surpresa, saber que eu estava em pulgas para ir ver o Fantastic Beasts assim que saísse. Havia alguma ansiedade, tenho sempre medo que novas coisas do Mundo Mágico não sejam tão boas. Mas quando a Angéline disse no Snapchat que era incrível e a minha amiga M disse que adorou, eu fiquei convencida. Fui direita ao cinema e comprei bilhete para a sessão mais próxima.
I’m so glad I went! The film is absolutely wonderful.

The story takes place in New York in the 1920s. Newt Scamander, Magizoologist and, most importantly, fellow Hufflepuff, arrives in the city with a suitcase full of magical creatures. Chaos almost immediately ensues.
A história passa-se na Nova Iorque dos anos 20. Newt Scamander, magizoologista e, mais importante, colega Hufflepuff, chega à cidade com uma mala cheia de criaturas mágicas. O caos dá-se quase de seguida.
All of the cinematography and the scenery are just stunning. From the New York of the 20s, to the MACUSA offices, everything has been thought of in detail and looks dreamy.
Toda a fotografia e todos os cenários são fabulosos. Desde a Nova Iorque dos anos 20, aos escritórios da MACUSA, tudo foi pensado ao mais pequeno detalhe e está de sonho.
The costumes are beautiful! Tina and Queenie’s outfits are perfectly 20s, but with a touch of something special. Magic, if you will. Newt is super cool in his blue coat and it’s nice to see him wearing his old Hufflepuff scarf from the Hogwarts days.
O guarda-roupa é lindíssimo! As roupas da Tina e da Queenie são mesmo à anos 20, mas com um toque de algo especial. De magia, vá. O Newt fica cheio de pinta com o seu casaco azul e é giro vê-lo com o cachecol de Hufflepuff dos dias de Hogwarts.

Newt is super nerdy and adorable. He loves his creatures and just wants to make sure others understand them too. And you could not have a better Newt than Eddie Redmayne who brings the quirkiness and the cute charm to the character brilliantly.
O Newt é muito querido e nerdy. Adora as suas criaturas e só quer que os outros também as compreendam. Não podia haver melhor Newt que Eddie Redmayne que lhe dá vida com excelente excentricidade e charme.
Tina is obstinate, wants to keep the order but fight for a fairer world at the same time. She cares and she’s kind. Katherine Waterston plays her beautifully, giving her this innocence and kindness that is just seamless!
A Tina é obstinada, quer manter a ordem mas ao mesmo tempo quer lutar por um mundo mais justo. Preocupa-se e é gentil. Katherine Waterston faz o papel lindamente, dando-lhe uma inocência e gentileza que é irrepreensível.
Queenie is sweet, she’s all heart and emotion. She protects the ones she cares about. Alison Sudol is fantastic in this role. Not only is she gorgeous, she is bubbly and lively and makes everyone fall in love with Queenie.
A Queenie é um doce. Toda emoção e levada pelo coração, protege aqueles de quem gosta. Alison Sudol está fantástica neste papel. Não só é linda de morrer, mas é divertida e cheia de vida e faz toda a gente apaixonar-se pela Queenie.
Jacob is good, kind, sweet, hard-working and absolutely hilarious. Dan Fogler brings him to life in a dorky but loveable way – he is adorable, funny, and perfect for this character.
O Jacob é bom, gentil, doce, trabalhador e de morrer a rir. Dan Fogler é excelente, dando-lhe um ar tímido e desconfortável mas de forma querida – é divertido e perfeito para o personagem.
And then there is the breakout star of the movie: the Niffler. The cutest little mole-like creature that is attracted by shiny things. I love the Niffler so much!
E depois há a revelação de todo o filme: o Niffler. Uma criatura tipo toupeira que é muito gira e se sente atraída por coisas brilhantes. Gosto tanto do Niffler!
The movie touches on some key aspects which have been recurring in the Wizarding World.
O filme fala de aspectos recorrentes no Mundo Mágico.
That you shouldn’t be scared of something because you don’t understand it. That you shouldn’t judge people because of what they are. That not one ‘kind’ of people is better, we should be living together, not against each other. That you should give people a chance.
Que não se deve ter medo de alguma coisa só porque não se percebe. Que não se deve julgar alguém por aquilo que é. Que não há um ‘tipo’ de pessoas melhor que os outros, devíamos viver juntos e não uns contra os outros. Que devemos dar uma hipótese às pessoas.
These also reflect the values of the house of Hufflepuff: dedication, hard work, kindness, tolerance. These are clearly very present in Newt.
Isto também reflecte os valores da casa Hufflepuff: dedicação, esforço, gentileza e tolerância. Estes valores estão claramente muito presentes no Newt.

This movie and its message could not have come at a better time. The news of the past few weeks, since the US election especially, have left me feeling a bit hopeless. Somehow this movie cheered me up again. I don’t know if it’s the scenery that is so dreamy, or the beautiful story, or the messages of acceptance and kindness, but it did give me a feeling of comfort.
Este filme e a sua mensagem não podiam ter vindo em melhor altura. As notícias das últimas semanas, desde as eleições nos EUA especialmente, deixaram-me sem qualquer esperança. Não sei bem como, mas este filme animou-me outra vez. Não sei se é pelos cenários serem tão bonitos, pela história estar tão bem feita, ou pelas mensagens de bondade, mas deu-me uma sensação de conforto.
I was really uplifted by this movie, it’s absolutely stunning. J.K. Rowling did a superb job with the script and David Yates directed it wonderfully.
Senti-me mesmo inspirada por este filme, é maravilhoso. J.K. Rowling fez um trabalho supervisor com o guião e David Yates realizou-o de forma fantástica.
There’s a good chance that I’ll be going to see this film again. And I (clearly) very highly recommend it!
