Hi guys! Hope you’re all well and having a good week so far. Today I’m telling you a bit about the new Amazon Originals series, Good Girls Revolt.
Olá a todos! Espero que estejam bem e a ter uma boa semana. Hoje falo-vos um pouco sobre a nova série da Amazon Originals, Good Girls Revolt.
The series is based on Lynn Povich’s book of the same name that tells of how, in the 1960s/70s, Newsweek’s female workers sued the magazine for the right to be fully fledged reporters.
A série é baseada no livro do mesmo nome de Lynn Povich, que conta a história de como, nos anos 1960 e 70, as trabalhadoras da Newsweek processaram a revista para poderem ser repórteres a sério.
The series is set around fictional magazine News of the Week, and starts in 1969. We are shown a work environment that does not allow women to write or be reporters – their only job is to fact check, research and make the (male) reporters look good.
A série passa-se à volta da revista ficcional News of the Week, e começa em 1969. É-nos mostrado um ambiente de trabalho que não permite que mulheres escrevam ou sejam repórteres – o único trabalho é verificar informações, fazer pesquisas e fazer com que os (homens) repórteres pareçam bem.
But in a time of cultural changes, a group of smart, tough, determined women becomes disillusioned with this setup, and decides to act for change.
Mas numa época de mudanças culturais, um grupo de mulheres inteligentes, fortes e determinadas sente-se desiludido com essa situação e decide agir para criar uma mudança.
A série estreia oficialmente no Amazon Video amanhã, 28 de Outubro. Mas a Amazon lançou o episódio piloto há algumas semanas e desde que o vi que tenho andado a contar os dias para a estreia!
The first episode shows us what the women had to deal with in a newsroom and why they needed change, also giving a glimpse at the cultural changes sweeping the US in the late 60s. It also introduces us to brilliant characters, among which Grace Gummer’s Nora Ephron. Yes, that’s the badass lady who was a journalist, a screenwriter and a film director, known among other things for films such as Sleepless in Seattle and When Harry Met Sally.
O primeiro episódio mostra-nos aquilo com que as mulheres na redacção tinham de lidar e a razão pela qual precisam de uma mudança, enquanto ao mesmo tempo dá uma amostra das mudanças culturais que atravessavam os EUA no final dos anos 60. Também nos apresenta personagens excelentes, entre as quais a Nora Ephron de Grace Gummer. Sim, Nora Ephron era a grande senhora que foi jornalista, guionista e realizadora de cinema, conhecida entre outras coisas por filmes como Sleepless in Seattle ou When Harry Met Sally.
The series also stars the brilliant Anna Camp, who you’ll likely know from Pitch Perfect or her guest role in The Mindy Project. Her character seems to be one of the more comformed to the status quo, but judging from the trailer, she will through a journey that will lead her to join the ‘revolt’.
A série também conta com a grande Anna Camp, que talvez conheçam do filme Pitch Perfect ou do seu papel na série The Mindy Project. A personagem dela parece ser uma das que está mais conformada com o status quo, mas julgando pelo trailer, irá ter um percurso que a leva a juntar-se à ‘revolução’.
The whole look of the show is fantastic too. Costume and set designs are fantastic, transporting us to a 60s newsroom full of stylish women and dapper men. It made me want to fill my wardrobe with bell bottom jeans, flowery shirts and dresses!
Todo o visual da série é fantástico. O guarda-roupa e os cenários são fantásticos, transportando-nos para uma redacção dos anos 60 cheia de mulheres muito chiques e homens bem parecidos. Fiquei cheia de vontade de encher o guarda-roupa de calças à boca de sino e camisas e vestidos com flores!
I’ve mentioned before that I have always been fascinated by the 60s and all the cultural changes that decade brought about. Being a woman and having studied journalism for my degree, this story ressonates even more with me. I’m thrilled that Amazon took this project on, and I cannot wait to see more of this show.
Já aqui disse que sempre fui fascinada com os anos 60 e todas as mudanças culturais que essa década despertou. Sendo mulher e tendo estudado Comunicação na faculdade, esta história tem ainda mais interesse para mim. Estou super entusiasmada por a Amazon ter abraçado este projecto e não posso esperar por ver mais desta série.
