This past Saturday I decided to explore an area of London I’d heard so much about but never actually visited: Primrose Hill.
I read somewhere that the area is like Notting Hill, without all the tourists, and it’s such a good way to put it! A quiet, small town, picture perfect neighbourhood, with a park that provides possible the best view of London you will ever see. There are tons of colourful, stunning, houses, beautiful coffeeshops, restaurants and shops – it’s great for a relaxed morning!
No passado sábado decidi explorar uma zona de Londres sobre a qual tinha ouvido falar tanto, mas que nunca tinha visitado: Primrose Hill.
Li em algum lado que esta zona é muito parecida com Notting Hill, mas sem os turistas todos – é uma óptima forma de a descrever! Uma zona calma, com ar de terra pequena, a imagem de um bairro perfeito, com um parque que tem possivelmente a melhor vista de Londres que alguma vez verão. Há imensas casas, cafés, restaurantes e lojas coloridas e lindas – óptimo para uma manhã relaxante!
Having woken up early, I got ready and took a couple of buses to get there. Going in from the Bridge Approach near Chalk Farm, the first thing I noticed was the cute coffee shop on the bridge, which in itself is covered with some pretty cool graffiti! And then, I noticed Gloucester Avenue and its super colourful houses – I stopped to take a few shots of them, mostly of the doors and entryways, which are my favourite things!
Tendo acordado cedo, arranjei-me e apanhei dois autocarros para lá chegar. Subindo pela Bridge Approach perto de Chalk Farm, a primeira coisa na qual reparei foi o café amoroso (é mesmo pequeno) na ponte que, já de si, impressiona pelos seus graffitis! E depois reparei na Gloucester Avenue com as suas casas coloridas – parei para tirar algumas fotografias, especialmente das portas e entradas que são as minhas coisas preferidas.
I continued on through Regent’s Park Road, admiring the store fronts and doing a bit of people watching in, I confess, the hopes of bumping into one of the several celebrities that apparently live around there. I had no luck in the celebrity spotting, but I did spot a few amazing cars, and shops I must go back to and visit properly.
Continuei por Regent’s Park Road, admirando as lojas e observando as pessoas coisa que, confesso, fiz com alguma esperança de me cruzar com alguma das várias celebridades que por ali vivem. Não tive sorte com celebridades, mas vi vários carrões e lojas onde quero voltar para ver com mais atenção.
First among which was Greenberry, a coffeeshop/restaurant with great decor (those floors!) which was quite full at the time I went so I didn’t venture in. I did go in to Anthony’s Delicatessen where I chatted to the super kind staff, got a soy late and a bolo de arroz, a Portuguese cake, that I took out to have while sitting in the park admiring the views.
A primeira delas foi Greenberry, um café/restaurante com uma decoração excelente (aquele chão!) e que estava bastante cheio quando lá passei, pelo que não me aventurei a entrar. Entrei, no entanto, na Anthony’s Delicatessen, onde conversei com o staff que é super simpático e comprei um latte de soja e um bolo de arroz que levei para comer no parque enquanto admirava a vista.
On my way, I stepped into the little side streets and discovered the gorgeous Chalcot Square, with its vibrant townhouses, among which was the house where Sylvia Plath once lived – I walked away willing to go buy ‘The Bell Jar’ then and there! I also noticed the house where Friedrich Engels, the German Philosopher who co-wrote the Communist Manifesto with Karl Marx, once lived – I cannot tell you how excited the History Geek in me felt!
A caminho, fiz um desvio pelas ruas laterais e assim descobri a maravilhosa Chalcot Square, com as suas casas de cores vibrantes, entre as quais a casa onde morou em tempos Sylvia Plath – afastei-me pronta a comprar logo ali o seu livro ‘The Bell Jar’!
Também reparei na casa onde viveu Friedrich Engels, o filósofo alemão que foi co-autor, com Karl Marx, do Manifesto Comunista – não vos consigo explicar o quão entusiasmada ficou a minha parte de geek de História!
Once you get to the park, it is a bit of a climb to get to the top spot, where you get the best views, but it is worth it. You can see everything from the Shard, to St. Paul’s, London Eye, the BT Tower…all the most impressive sights of London in one, and it’s breathtaking.
Uma vez chegando ao parque, é preciso subir um bocado para chegar ao topo, de onde se tem a melhor vista, mas vale a pena. Vê-se tudo da Shard, a St. Paul’s, ao London Eye, a BT Tower…todos os edifícios mais impressionantes de Londres em um – é de cortar a respiração!
I’ve lived in this city for pretty much 6 years, and this moment in Primrose Hill allowed me to appreciate it so much more – I felt lucky, inspired, motivated, and in love with the beautiful city I am lucky to call home.
So if you do get a chance, do go and explore this area of London. It’s stunning, and well worth a visit. And that view, it should be on everyone’s list of ‘must sees’ in London!
Já vivo nesta cidade há praticamente 6 anos e este momento em Primrose Hill deu-me a oportunidade de apreciar o que tenho muito mais – senti-me sortuda, inspirada, motivada e apaixonada pela cidade linda à qual tenho a sorte de chamar casa.
Por isso se tiverem uma oportunidade, vão explorar esta zona. É linda e vale mesmo a pena visitar. E aquela vista, devia estar em todas as listas de “essenciais de Londres”!
