Lisbon is known as the ‘city of seven hills’ – and trust me, if you, like me, like walking – you will really, really notice the hills. Or at least your legs will remind you at the end of the day.
Lisboa é conhecida como a cidade das sete colinas – e acreditem se, como eu, gostarem de andar a pé pelas cidades, vão mesmo, mesmo dar pelas colinas. Ou pelo menos as vossas pernas vão lembrar-vos no final do dia.
One of my favourite walks to take in my hometown is up to the Castle. The old buildings are beautiful, there’s a great charm to the neighbourhoods around there and the views cannot be beaten.
Um dos meus passeios preferidos na minha cidade natal é ir até ao Castelo. Os edifícios antigos são lindos, os bairros da zona têm grande charme e não há vistas como aquelas.
Recently the city hall redid the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, which has been my favourite place in Lisbon for years because of the beautiful bougainvillea trees and stunning views – and it looks even better now, which makes me so happy!
A Câmara Municipal refez recentemente o Miradouro de Santa Luzia, que há anos é o meu sítio preferido em Lisboa graças às buganvílias lindas e vistas espantosas – e agora limpinho ainda está mais bonito, o que me deixa super contente!
The Castle itself, named after Saint George who is one of the Patron Saints of Portugal, is a medieval fortress and provides what are, in my opinion, the very best views of Lisbon. No joke, I tell everyone who goes there and asks me for tips that they should visit the Castle for the views alone.
O Castelo de S. Jorge (um dos Padroeiros de Portugal) é uma fortaleza medieval e tem, na minha opinião, as melhores vistas de Lisboa. Digo a toda a gente que vai a Lisboa e me pede sugestões para visitar o Castelo só pela vista, sem exagero.
On the way down from the Castle, it’s great to take your time (especially because the floor can be slippery!) and really appreciate the beautiful doors and tiles in the buildings in this old side of town. There are some gems!
Ao descer do Castelo, é óptimo ir com calma (até porque o chão pode ser escorregadio!) e ver com atenção as portas e azulejos tão bonitos nesta zona antiga da cidade. Há verdadeiras pérolas!
